Sky+ Remote Record Application

Some people have been asking me about the Sky+ Remote Record App. The N73 is currently not supported so the way around this is to use the java app designed for the Sony Ericsson phones.

Download this app, install in the usual manner and then run. Anyone who has trouble logging in, follow these instructions....

Enter the username, press ok.

Select password but enter nothing then press ok.

Select password again, enter password, press ok.

Select Login

And after a couple of seconds it should work.

This app is unsupported by Sky and this post is the most that I can support it. It works absolutely fine on my N73 although the Series60v2 app I had on my 6680 is nicer.

Now bombard Sky with emails demanding a bespoke app the Series60v3 !!! 😉

P.S. Make sure you have registered your phone with Sky via the Interactive/Customer Support pages from your Sky+ box. When yo do, you will get a with a web link. If you click this, you'll just get a message saying your handset isn't compatible, so don't bother clicking it 😉

Hope that helps 😊

I find this a bit hit and miss on the N73. I have managed to set something to record once but on other times I have trouble logging in.

When entering login details the application often crashes too.

Yeah its a real shame they haven't done the S60 3rd Edition as I imagine there are quite a few people who have Sjy and a third Edition phone. Lots of N70's too, but I imagine there's a correlation between likely users and early tech adopters.

Has anyone else had any experience of setting remote record on an S60 3rd edition phone?

I changed my password on the website and I still can't login using the Jar app

Sadly Sky are as slow as Microsoft with updates 😞

Would like to use it but not gonna get stressed without it

I have been using the SKY app on my N73 for a while, but the other day when I tried to login I got a messge saying an update was available for the software. I was then automatically transferred to a download page, which didn't work as the N73 is not supported. 😞

Click the link at the top of this thread. This downloads version 4 of the .jar app which is the latest and will work on the N73. I have tried and tested this.

I had the same experience, I got the app installed and working well on my N73 for about 4/5 months, then when I tried logging in yesterday, I saw a quick message telling me an updated version of the app had been released - it wouldn't let me log in and then on the update page, I couldn't do it as the 'N73 is not supported' - have any of you clever, clever people found a way around this yet, I was really enjoying using the app, but now I'm really disappointed that its scr*wed.

Any thoughts from people brighter than me, much appreciated...!!

Perfect, this works, and also works on my E65

Thanks

OK, after I posted, I downloaded from the link at the top, plugged in and tried to install, it offered me to option "Sky by Mobile already exists, do you want to replace v3.x with v4.x?" Hell yes, was my reposnse, the installation was smooth, and when I next booted it up, ity had even saved my login details, so it is all good, thanks to Lovesign for posting v4.x - I could kiss you (ahem...well, I'm quite pleased)

Restrain yourself ! 😉 LOL

and you're very welcome. I just wish Sky would pull their finger out of their butt and get a proper Series60 V3 version sorted.

Well, after a long while having to use a Sony (pah) Java application to utilise Sky's Remote Record features, they have at last seen fit to release a native Symbian 3rd Edition version.

Type the following URL into your phone's web browser and download the app, which will automatically install.

http://mobile.sky.com/skyapp/skyapp.asp

The page will auto detect your phone and install the correct version.

My personal opinion of this application is that it is a vast improvement over the Java version and better than the old S60 2nd Edition that I used to use on my 6680.

It took a while to get there, but here it is 😊

All the best,

Rob.

After installing v5 of the Sky App (which is great) there is now no option to log onto Sky Bet as there was before! Is there a reason that this was not included? It was dead handy before ....

I guess the only people to answer this would be Sky.

Is it Sky that writes this JAR app then? It was in version 4, it just seems odd that it's not in v5, I guess I'll just have to place my bets via the web then.......

No, Sky don't write the app, per se, it's a company call weComm, but I'm sure Sky spec the program so they would know.
