of course your other option is to use BT to connect via the PC, rather than tweeking the script for the bluetooth module to go into wifi.

I'll keep looking during the day... see if I can find the informative page I read.

connecting via BT tho on an N80 and having to sit within 10 meters of the PC would, having a wifi capable device, be pretty pointless! 😉

Forgot about the range limitations of bluetooth - if I have to sit that close I might as well use my PC!

I'll google it though, just see what I can find just for interest.

UPDATE:

CONDITIONS TEST 1

with sleep mode on

Charge:
full overnight charge Monday, disconnected 0830 Tuesday

Settings
Brightness - minimum
Light time out - 5 secs
Power saver - 1 minute

Usage
No Wifi at all
Set to GSM mode at home (no 3G in the back of beyond where I live)
Close all apps except handy keylock and handy clock (they appear closed but must be running in the background somehwere) when not in use (around 13-15mb of memory free according to handy taskman)
About 1 hour of calls
About 45 text messages
1 hour of music player

Status
11:00 Wednesday - 26 1/2 hours - 4 bars left

ok, cool... 4 bars if you dont really use the phone!!!! :icon13:

😉

See how long you get out of it hammering your wifi and taking calls or using tomtom on a long journey... HAHAHA..

keep us informed tho in all seriousness... is interesting to see what you come out with in the end. 😊

If I use Wifi? About 2 hours!! I don't use TomTom (thank goodness). That's about an average day for me - was gonna try and not use it at all but I couldn't help myself! I thought I'd just document how heavily I was using so I could compare later.

Still on 4 bars - nearly 32 hours now!

have you before noticed you'd be on 4 bars, then get say a 15 min call and it would drop down to 1 or 2 bars??

i.e. give you a crappy reading.

I go from 4 bars to 1 or 2 bars in only a few hours...dodgy meter

Ok had 4 bars until 7pm, then 1 bar until about 1am!! Weird battery meter - I'm usually timing it and guessing how much time I have left depending on my last charge. There only seems to be 3 battery charge levels - high, medium and low!

Ok I had to charge it at 1am last night - grand total of 39 1/2 hours.

It might have lasted longer but I couldn't risk the phone turning off during the night and my alarm(s!) not going off!

Now to test without sleep mode...

still probably less than 48 days tho... without you really using it much... :icon13:

Charging the phone up every other day isn't perfect, but it's better than doing it every day.

But still, whoever decided on the battery should be strung up by their ankles!

I can't believe they can get away with saying it has an 8 day standby time! I'd be interested to see their tests - see how they prolonged the phone's life that long. Maybe offline, sleep on, lowest back light? Or maybe they just made it up?!!

It's just a good job I love this phone and can charge it at work and at home - otherwise I'd be majorly stuck!

(oh and before this rant turns this thread into another battery life one, without sleep mode I'm up to 6 hours full bars 😉 )

I have been connected to wifi, with skype and fring since 9am this morning, and I still show 6 bars, but I know in 5 hours I will be down to 1 bar.....I dont think its possible to go by the meter level, its just too inconsistent.

I was on tomtom from 0930 to 1020 and again 1250 to 1330 and was on full bars from a charge to this morning.

I used fring for 10 mins, and wifi for about 20 and I went down to 2 at 1600.

Its definately FLAKEY!! 😡

SO.... i just ignore it

I tried leaving the internet radio when i go to sleep without leaving the phone on charge, it dies in about 6 hours on wlan
