I bought TomTom Navigator 6 together with the bluetooth GPS from TomTom and have been using it for a while now on my Nokia e61 (FW 3). I must say I am positively surprised, which is something that didn't happen often since I changed to Nokia from my Treo.
Everything has been working without any problems. Contrary to earlier reports, I did not have any issues with screen backlight turning on or not turning on when it is supposed to, screen backlight is highly customizable and now seems to work the way it should.
Also, contrary to my expectation, the application does not suffer from the "numerical shortcut bug" introduced with firmware 2 and still there in FW 3. I don't have to use the blue key to use the respective shortcut - Granted, this should be a given and not be some special feature, but alas, it isn't so on the e61 (browser etc.)
I can get to where I want to in the GUI fast, the overall usability is really very good, in contrast to most things Nokia on the e61.
The maps are accurate and the instructions have always been clear. E.g. re-routing also works without problems, no crash in about 6 trips, total time in use so far about 10 hours.
The only small minus I have found is that it sometimes takes a minute or two until the position is found after switching on the GPS (though this may well be the same or even worse with other products).
P.S.: No, I don't work for TomTom, nor do I have other relations to them. 😊
Do you use TomTom Traffic? I have found that it seems to disconnect on almost every journey even when there has been no loss of the 3G/GPRS connection on the E61. There is no way to choose which wireless connection TomTom will use for TomTom Traffic and it seems to have a preference for my WLAN so it disconnects within 50 yards of my house and then you lose Traffic updates as it does not connect again using 3G/GPRS without user intervention.
I've also been running TT6 on my E61..with a Holus 236 GPS Slim BT receiver without any problems at all. Delay of a minute or so when first powering on BT receiver is normal as it finds sats to lock onto. I actually leave mine on in the boot all the time, plugged into a power socket. I turn it off every couple of weeks to reset it it . I'm all for "all in one" systems rather than a connection of phone/PDA/sat nav clutter that is the norm.

No, I haven't tried TomTom Traffic, maybe I will in the future.
There is one more inconvenience I have came across: TomTom allows choosing a contact from "Contacts" as the location one wants to navigate to. While the contacts are displayed correctly, it takes ages to select a contact from the list, at least in my case. For each letter I type, I have to wait about 25 seconds until the list narrows down according to the letter. I never use this because it takes too long, otherwise it would be a useful feature.
Does this work better for others?
Has anyone else noticed that in TomTom Plus Services -> Safety Camera Warnings -> Update Now and the automatic updates of safety cameras do not work. They never update the safety cameras even when updates are available on TomTom Home!
At present, using TomTom Home to update safety cameras is not working! The only solution is to use Download POIs on the E61.
Hi Truetype,
Same problem here on my E61 with TomTom 6.1 and the contacts. I stopped using the contacts from within TomTOm because it is too slow to use...
