What does everyone think of this? I don't have 7650 (still waiting my 3650) so can't test it.

This software has so much potential, PsiLoc could have opened a beautiful can of worms with this!

Where could it stop!? Already, I'm putting in reminders of speed cameras so when I'm driving down the Motorway, my phone remindes me that there's a camera up the road.

What about if people start trading databases? Thaat would be cool to be able to say "right, I'm off to Cardiff, I'll just download all the speed traps in Cardiff". Of course, the resolution isn't brilliant, but the potential is there!

What if PsiLoc created a subsrciption service where your phone connects via GPRS to a live database that informs you of things to watch out for (traffic, roadworks, bad weather).

What else? The possibilities are endless!

No speed cameras here, or cops if that matters 😃
May the V-12 be with you!! 😃

Something strange happened with it after installing, restarted like should.
After restarting and startting app it turned of my BT.
And after after that i left it on the background to make a call, it crashed.
I got back my BT by going to settings and turning it back on.

Now it works good, have to test calling again, but BT stays on.
Looks like a really nice and usefull app. Especially here in Finland where
we dont have cell locations displayed.

May the V-12 be with you!! 😃
First of all, happy new year and welcome back AAS!
May I ask where you live? I think remember you saying that the 7650 is not sold in your country so there's no service, and now this.. I am very curious! 😊

Great app! The only annoying thing with this s/w is that in many locations (such as my home) the phone periodically changes connection between 2 or more different cells of the same bts... Maybe there should be an option for the last digit (cell no) to be ignored!

Isn't it obvious? the middle of nowhere!! :P

Actually i live in the land of the camels and GMCs, the land of the Benzs buyers and "Bimmers-grow-on-trees", the land of sand and dune buggies, the land of the black gold the land of the Saudi Arabianeze 😃

Well there's no speed cameras in the city where I am, but the capital has some. Pretty cool, we manage everything 😃 (i'm cool wit it 8) )

I like the software very much. Also I see a lot of potention in applications. What I might suggest is to be able to switch of the beep when changing cells. Is that possible?

Regards

Unfortunately, my friend petran (we are both in Greece, but we have to write in English! Funny isn't it?...) this cannot happen to all Operators, for example Telestet (202-10) uses the first digit as cell indicator and the others as site ID. Cosmote (202-01) does what you said (last digit as cell ID and the others as site ID).
If this could happen (perhaps with an option like: "Which digit do you want me to ignore? First? Last? None?"😉 I would like it very much, because I have the same cell reselection at home, like you do. 😞
(bla, bla, bla...) And there HAS to be an option to turn that beep off!! 😃
Definitely!!! 😃

Hey, this isn't a complaint, just a humorous observation; The office I work in os on the border of no less than three cells. In fact, if I so much as pick up the phone, it changes cell, walk to a colleague's desk, it changes cell, go for a dump in the bog, it changes cell!

Truly exCELLent!

Ha! It's funnier at my place, which is covered from 6 cells (well, I live in a crowded area of my city :-? ). When I dig my nose, my 7650 recognizes this movement (7650 has A.I. ???) , and depending on the amount of mucus that I will extract, it changes cells! 😃
It beeps and turns screen lights on, so often, that my battery needs recharge almost every 15 hours!!! 😮
After this, I am using miniGPS only when I need it...

I think MiniGPS should not gain GPS status as yet because it does not used Satelite ... only GSM elements ..... need to be improved mate!!! 😃 😃 😃

I dont think its useful for us here in India. After installation, I noticed that the cell location number kept changing, despite the phone being kept at the same location!!!!!

Any idea why this could be happening? It would swith from 622 to 834 and back at regular intervals.

CJ

cj99 .... this miniGPS is not areal GPS ... got to live with it mate .... it just used your cell Id and Location Area code Id to locate the position .... if your phone being serve by two channel/frequency of different cell with different LAC than the problem will start .... 😃 😃

Don't forget that this is the first release of miniGPS. A few days ago, I got a reply from them about a question I did for the cell name database. I can say only one thing: expect a lot to come about this app... 😉

too bad for now, was getting quite excited about this app. Well, i'll just have to wait i guess. Any progress on the any "log app"?

This application is going to be awesome and I can't wait for it to come out! PsiLoc have really thought up something wicked here and we should be glad that they're developing for the Symbian platform.

One important question: Why not release a 92x0 version? With the power and space provided by that machine, we could have all those databases available at any time!

i love the miniGPS so match

my tips for mini gps,

- you should see at the main screen in what cell you are if it has a name,

- Change wallpaper on current cell event

- Sound event on current cell (like: welcome home, honey i am home)

- export of the database -> like for me; country belgium: if many users use it you have a real gps database if they do a effort to give the group of cells away.

- I know so far that the area ID is a certain city where you are, so it should be having a name to (like: london, Brussels) again export should be great.
eh ?
92x0 version as a version for all communicators, there's the 9210, 9210i, and 9290.

Please make your posts more specific and useful so we can understand them better 😊

Psiloc released v0.83 BETA of miniGPS. New features:

1. Cell groups added - now it is possible to create a group of cells and than create an event for a whole group. Instead of typing the same event for a 5 cells You have at Your home now You can just create a group!

2. Signal feature significantly improved - now it is displayed at once and in both - dBm and % instead of silly 0-7 values.

3. Changing cells info on the main screen can be now also muted or set to off in Settings.

4. A few small bugs corrected.

I tested it, and it works fine!

Sound great but how much?
If it is going to be more than 10USD, I would like to develop a simple freeware for all of you.
It is quite easy to get it done.

I just installed it and i want to say that psiloc are awesome, this is a great idea and minGPS could be one of the best (if not the best) apps for the 7650.I really see a great potential here.
Keep on the good work psiloc.
I'd like to say that psiloc should put the cell changing issue on their todo list asap 😃
I'd like to say that psiloc should put the cell changing issue on their todo list asap 😃
Isn't the cell group feature aimed at this? I have a hard time coming up with a better solution to it.... but if there is one, I'm sure psiloc will figure it out. 😃

Can't say that this would be overly useful in NZ - there's so much of the country which isn't covered by the vodafone network yet.

Also, in the outlying suburb I live in, one or two cells cover the entire place, so no matter where I am in the locality, would it still tell me I'm in my home? Or can it break cells down further?

In one cell I can be at work, shopping, or at a gym...

I don't get the practicality of it... sure it would be great if every building had its own 'cell' or a cell could be broken down further..

Maybe NZ is just backward and these things are already implemented overseas...
