Pitching the N73 against Star Trek (no, not the series)

In Smartphones Show 26, I pitch the Nokia N73 against the Qtek 8500, a.k.a. the HTC STRTrK. Both are of similar age, price, size and are aimed at similar buyers. But which is the better 'smartphone for everyman'? If you want to grab the show on your smartphone, iPod or PSP, here's the RSS feed to copy and paste.

That was a solid objective review, but I doubt there ever going be a debate has to whether the N73 was going to triumph in that comparison. The N73 hardware is no match for the 8500/Smartflip/STRTrK.Also the 8500/Smartflip/STRTrK has been the market a number of months more than the N73,but then again Nokia to tend to replace their top models more often than HTC in the Windows Mobile world. The N73 completely trounces it in spec. Series 60 3rd Edition all the way.

Actually, they've been available for about the same length of time. And yes, the spec of the N73 ultimately wins it the contest, but the style and keypad of the Star Trek are big plus points for it.

Maybe a *slightly* artificial comparison, but it was the best I could do seeing as i couldn't get hold of a Nokia 6290, the closest thing to the Star Trek in the Symbian world.... 8-)

You are correct with your viewpoints on the STRTrK where style over functionality is favoured.I remember a while back on Smartphone Show 11 when you reviewed the clamshell Nokia N71(which you were quite impressed with at the time),you mentioned that the N71 would be the most likely competitor/rival for STRTrK,and even at the present time I think it still a close rival for the the STRTrK.The one major disadvantage of the N71 is its bulkiness though, however it does come equipped with the high quality 2MP camera of the N70 & co. Overall though an impressive smartphone at a very attractive price at the present.
