N95 Study
cubwolf wrote:I didnt get an sms
I just had an email waiting for me when i got home last night.
I didnt get a chance to read any of the details.
I just signed up as quick as i could and bagged a nice N95 for free 😊
I have had the 360 survey on my N73 for 4 weeks now
i have the same problems.
I noticed in my sky mag this month theres a company called e2save thats offering the N95 for free on a 50 a month tariff... 215 on basic 30 tariff on o2.... so it looks like its pretty competivitly priced.
I've just noticed something worrying. The log file created by this study software is currently 50meg in size. I didn't get a log file anywhere near that size with the study on my N80. I only noticed because the phone started throwing up low memory errors. Annoyingly I can't check the actual file itself because it's "in use" and I really don't know how to get onto it any other way.
Also, uploading 50meg over GPRS? If that's what is going to happen then I'm glad I can keep the phone!
50Mb logfile.... surely not... its pure text...
whats in it???
Delete it and start a new one?
That's what I tried.
When I try to open it:
When I try to delete it:
I can't do it from the phone either. I'm tempted to try and uninstall the study software and re-install it again. I don't have an install for it and I don't think they'd give me an answer at the weekend if I e-mail. Oh man. I hope this is a temporary glitch. I've tried restarting etc.
can you copy it and open the copy?
or kill the process using it ?
I can't copy it either. How do I kill the process?
ahhh wait... you cant can you... your looking at your phone... rather than the file being in use on the PC.
can you copy it with Sexplorer or Ybrowser
or...
change the attributes that are locking it...
Thanks for your help on this. I can't do anything with either of those :s
The file is actually increasing in size!
EDIT: Just found this! Definitely something screwy going on!
Q: Does the research software affect using my phone, e.g. the phone memory or the memory card? What about battery performance? Will my phone be slower to use?
A: The software might slightly increase the demand on battery power, but it will not make your phone slower in normal use. The data reports sent by the software do not affect phone functions, e.g. making and receiving calls or sending and receiving SMS. The software uses ca. 80 kb phone memory and the data log size is normally less than 350 kB/month.
Ha ha. Well your 'slightly' over that amount int ya 😉

That's certainly one way of putting it 😊
Well I just went to see if my log had uploaded tonight and it's tell me that status has expired.
EDIT: It's also deleted the log file.
I'll e-mail them and get this sorted out. I wonder if the others are having the same thing?
wasnt there an earlier thread that said about the study software being 'expired'?? Im sure there was somewhere.
Yes this one
Dear N95 Panel Participant,
DHL has been so fast in your case (these phones left Helsinki at 14:30
yesterday) that we did not have the proper time to update the N95 IMEI
codes in our database. So if you have tried to open the SP360 software,
it probably was showing 'disabled (expired)' as Status.
The way to make it work properly is to, while the application is opened,
tap the digits 78966 (they will not appear on the screen). Then in the
Options menu, tap Start. It should set the application Status back to
'enabled' and get it started.
This is a group email, your individual questions will be answered
individually, if this does not solve the problem you have raised with us.
Thank you for you collaboration.
Best regards,
Yves / Nokia Study Support
aye, that'll be the one! 😉
Excellent work 😊
I have had the log.txt file as well.
Mine was 130mb yesterday and was making the phone throw up error messages. i emailed the study people about it and they sent me this reply.
You have signaled problems with your new test N95 that crashed the
device or made it behave in a way that made it unusable. We apologize
deeply for the inconvenience.
After discussing the issue with the specialists here, we think that our
software is probably the cause of the crashes. If after uninstalling it,
you keep having the same problems, please contact us as soon as you can.
The solution that was proposed goes as follows:
1) Remove the Study Software:
How to:
- Open the Study application from the phone menu
- Click on the numbers 22684 in the screen (no input shown in the screen).
- After the message "Stopped SP360 server" has appeared, exit the Study
application
- From the phone menu, select the Manager -application (usually in the
Tools folder)
- Scroll to the Study row, select Options and then select Remove
2) Format the phone:
How to:
- If you have data that you do not want to lose on your phone, you
should back it up, because formating will delete all on the phone.
- In the main view of the telephone, enter the code *#7370#
- A message will come up asking "Restore all original settings? Phone
will restart."
- Answer "Yes"
- The phone will then prompt you for the lock code, which by default
should be 12345.
We will be working hard on a better version of our study software and
will contact you again in the next few days. In the meanwhile, please
keep on using the N95 as your primary phone.
Thank you very much for your understanding and sorry again about the
trouble.
Best regards,
Nokia Study Support
It might be worth emailing them your selves if you are getting this out of memory problem.
Dave
wow... fully admitting that is their software... I dont think I have EVER seen such an admission from s.w houses! HAHAHAHHA brilliant!
And the reply is
Thank you very much for your collaboration in this matter.
Nice to see that you are committed to seeing this work.
Our software specialist here has worked on an improved version of the
software. It is a hard task to do since we have no way from here in
Finland to observe the crashes reported by our participants in the UK
first-hand, but crossing our fingers, this version should not reproduce
the same behavior that you and some others have experienced.
You will find the software attached to this email. You can install it
with the help of PC Suite or simply by transferring it on your phone (or
if you get it by using the email application of your phone, then it's
even easier).
Once it is installed, can you please contact us again to let us know if
things are improved or not.
Thank you very much for your precious collaboration.
Best regards,
Nokia Study Support
Thanks for posting that.
Interestingly on my phone after the initial weirdness it disabled itself. I followed the code to re-enable it and since then it's been working like a charm. I've been keeping an eye on the log file though and it's around 130k. It sounds like I've been lucky though.
You will soon know if its playing up as you cant do anything on the phone 😮
I just hope they can sort it out as i would hate to have to give the phone back 😉
Hi, I had the same problem, my log file became huge. I sent email to support and they told me that if it continues, uninstall the study software (see study faq). Then they will send a new version of the study software next week. So if you have similar problems, send email to support.
I am still loving my N95 and had another email from them the other day thanking me for taking part and asking me to install another version of the study software so they can monitor the battery usage.
In return i get a new Nokia Bluetooth Headset :icon14:
I had quite a few glitches with the Study Software when I was doing this on the N80 - but still, I needed some new underpants so the M&S vouchers were most welcome 😊

you didnt need new pants BECAUSE of the study software did you?? 😉
How do you join this programme?
oxfordmark wrote:How do you join this programme?
You have to be a member of Club Nokia for starters which annoyingly is still in a "maintenance break" - what are they doing, re-writing the website in assembler or something...?
I've had various Nokias for years and never bothered to join, until I saw this thread some time ago 😊
is it open for other countries? I cannot find anything about it in italian Club Nokia 😞
