I'm using a wav ringtone (a nice clip from a hardcore remix of the Cape Fear theme) but sometimes when my phone rings it doesn't find the name for the number in my phone book (I.e. the number comes up on the front panel instead of the name) and my ringing tone reverts to the horrible Nokia Tune. I'm not sure if the two issues here are combined, but they seem to happen at the same time. I am storing the file and my contacts in the communicator memory, and in profiles the default tone is this wav file, and I have set up no personal tones.
I've tried switching profiles, rebooting, changing my profile then changing it back, moving the file to the tones directory (clutching at straws here). I like my ringtone and want to use it, but it's annoying me now.
Oh man, i really hate those terrible default Nokia tone!!! Damn...
To avoid this... here's some tips...
1. Try to use a wav file which is not too big... something below 100K... you can do this by converting it with the converter...
2. Less running application will definitely help... compressing some memory with TASK MANAGER would be handy...
3. Try not to have too many ringtones in the TONES FOLDER of drive C..
4. Change the name of the wav file to numerical ( like 01 - 05 ) so that the 9210 search easier in the folder...
Hope this will help u out dude....
Something that I've found helps with the "don't recognise this number" problem is that I get better results by storing Mobile numbers in international format.
I know it sounds stupid, but it does make a difference on my device(Instead of 07818 1234567, I use +4478181234567).
Also, make doubly sure you only have the number in one phonebook entry. If a number exists in more than one phonebook, the device gets confused (I found this with my 7110 and thought Nokia would've sorted it out by now).
Hehe!
I just realised how long ago the original question was posted so you probably got your answer ages ago.
Sorry!
Surprisingly enough they are the first replies I've had, so thanks both of you for your responses. I'll have a play with those ideas and see if they help.
I have the solution for this.
When you are not using the pda, make sure that the Telephone application is in the foreground.
I actually did a small test. I wrote an app that detects incoming calls and automatically switches the Telephone app to the foreground. The results
* If the phone was closed, one get about one full Nokia tune before the phone switches to the wav file in the profile.
* If the phone was open, then one gets about half the Nokia tune before the wav file kicks in.
Very anoying.
This makes the Meeting profile almost useless. What use is it having the ring tone set to Beep, but while I'm busy typing some information during the meeting, it still gives a Nokia tune ring before realizing it must only beep.

I've got a wav file with the sound of an old phone as a ringtone. At first I had it on my MMC but the problem described happend more often then. May be because of a bad fit of the card (I use a 64Mb MMC, and take it out at least once a day). Moving the file to the communicator helped, but didn't solve the problem entirely. I don't know where you have stored the file...?
