I have Windows XP Professional and decided to installed PC suite version 1.10 (the latest version) for my Nokia 7650 to do a Full BACK UP experiencing “System error” maybe conflicts with software due to firmware version (3.12 18-06-02 NHL-2NA) need upgrading.
But during setup it alerted me that “PC suite has not bee been tested on this operating system so I may encounter problem would I like to continue YES or No”….
Strange warning message
I select Yes to continue which I thought their would be no problem. After installation was completed and rebooted I click on the PC suite icon and alerted me a warning message “File created empty” NOTHING happened.
This is strange because previously I had windows 2000 Professional and PC suite Nokia 7650 was installed and RUUNING WITH NO PROBLEM. On the CD which came with my Nokia 7650 it mention windows 2000 in the ReadMe file and The latest PC suite version 1.10 which was 2hr download Time from Nokia website the ReadMe file states windows 2000.
Correct me if I’m doing anything wrong… But is PC suite for Nokia 7650 (0% percent) compatible with Windows XP Pro? Has any one suffer from this situation?
If this has been posted before I’m sorry but will like a solution.

May be you missed some drivers? 😃
just close all the running programs then back-up again, if the problem is again encountered, just restart your phone and try to back up again, mine is 3.12, winXP, i have the same problem with you, sometimes
It's hardly gave me problem on my MSI mother board with MSI BT running on XP pro together with Nokia PC Suite. :-?

I not as concerned about the error message on my phone.
I am very concerned with PC suite functioning with my Windows XP Pro. As I mention above it work fine on the same machine IBM Thinkpad Transnote windows 2000 Pro perfectly.
I removed Pc Suite from my machine before Installed Wind XP Pro. Yesterday I try to do a installation for the first time and I encounter the above problem.
When I get home I shall take a screen shoot of the warning message so readers can get a better understanding.

I to get this problem, I have had it working ( once in five attempts ) on Windows XP Pro, never have had it working on an Windows XP Pro SP-1 at all, I know the econnect.exe is the prog at fault and I get this error message

I can do most of the tasks that PC Suite does anyway, I.e. Mail backup by sending the mail folders via ir to my pc with SeleQ, then have a batch file that puts the individual mails in the right folders and then a macro that exports them to an excel file and sorts them etc.
Nokia should really have sorted this out, this phone is for early adopters, Windows XP is now very much mainstream, I cannot believe they do not support it out of the box
Well, you will have to solve the problem by yourself or with the help of AAS,like the error message said: PC suite has not beed tested and is not supported under WinXP.
We will see a version that will be supported under WinXP in the near future.
Spoke to club nokia who inform me that there are still no plans for an updated for XP. They also said that the 3650 PC suite is XP compatible but will not work on 7650. I found this strange but did not persue the issue as they have tendancy to drop the phone and cut you off if you as dificult questions.
I have PC suite working with XP pro 70% of the time.
I have had the latest firmware update and it has not crashed this week.
SpaCe AND Robbie
Nokia has to upgrade PC suite because I’m not downgrading back to Windows 2000 Pro in order to back up may Phone Book THIS is the only reason why I want to install Pc Suite.
The software on my NK 7650 can be loaded back but Not MY phonebook due to managed by Sybiam OS not The SIM. Card.
SpaCe the do you have any alternative solution to back up my phone book…. No luck with PC suite…..Due suffering from system error when restarting and turning on Phone.
Planing to do a hard reset
Robbie It’s silly that Nokia 7650 will not be compatible with the Nokia 3650 Pc Suite IT WILL SAVE Nokia time…
Well,i cant solve your problems because i use Linux and Win2000 pro.
WinXP compatible version of PC suite should come out in the near future, like ia said.
to Guest!
The file c:\system\data\contacts.cdb is the file for your phone book, however it cannot be copied or sent to your pc, so I cannot see a way of editing it/backing it up that way, also there needs to be a contacts manager written by someone that can understand the .cdb files that Nokia uses. There are a number of freeware progs that can do this into excel ( Palm Pilots also use the same database format ) and back to your phone, although it isn't poss ( as far as I can see ) to overwrite the contacts.cdb on your phone anyway...... I may just install and dual boot win 2k to get round Nokia's shite OS support!!
PC suite should be upgraded in the next few weeks, with all the OS compatibility that the 3650 suite has.
That was an interesting post, Space. You can't copy and paste Contacts file cos its always in use, I guess... Perhaps the System Tools ap would get around that? Or some way/ap that lets you switch on and off system applications? Just new to this scene so just pondering the question...!
I struggled with this problem also for few days. I tried uninstalling SP1 and after that NO problems any more installing or getting PC suite started.

My sollution to the problem is little bit anorthodox/not usual. My Windows Xp PRO(with SP1) had problems with mRouter (My firewall was always telling me he wanted to have access on the Internet!!!) and when I tried to start pc suite it gave me the the usual screen that the program had performed an illegal operation.
I was lucky because I had Connectix Virtual PC (a PC emulator) so I dissabled my irda on xp (so I can use them on the OSes installed on VirtualPC) and then Installed Win2000 PRO(SP3) on VirtualPC and gave it access on the serial port used by the irda.) So that's how I use PC suite inside WINXP.
(I know an alternative to Virtual PC it's called vmware but it is much slower)
Windows XP Pro with SP1 and working just fine 😃
what's your firmware on the phone, 'simply' - Im wondering whether these problems relate to that...?
I don't think that has anythink to do with the firmware. It sounds more like a conflict with the harware of the computer. Nothing to do with te mobile phone.
Anyway, that's a screenshot that describes how I solved my problems with PC Suite.
Looks Impressive don't u think?

You can't copy the file c:\system\data\contacts.cdb because it's locked by the "phone" application.
To unlock it, run "system tools" application (from PsiLOC+) and enable the "flight profile".
The "phone" application will be shut-down, you will be asked to remove your SIM card, and the
phone will restart. Then you will be able to read or write contacts.cdb and restart the phone.

Its not firmware dependant, the malfunction is on PC suite and XP side, and it might me hardware because if what MemphisX said is true about working fine in the emulator, meaning: The OS installed on the emulator usualy runs on non existant (Virtual) hardware so it might explain some of the problems.

I have Virtual PC running Win 2K and SP3 ( and win 95! ) I have set up the PC Suite but when I click on it, it comes up with the error message " Can't create empty document", do you know why? looked on Google et al, but no luck!
Well I worked with it only for 2 days. My 7650 is now on NSC and being repaired (nothing to do with it).
Well I had the same problem with win98se.
Maybe if you uninstall service pack 3...
I don't know but my installation was clear only win2k,drivers for irda, PC additions, and PC suite.
Virtual PC ver 5.1
Ah and I made a mistake previously. Not Service pack 3 but Service Pack2. Very very sorry.
