7650, xp and irda

okay please can someone help me. ive searched the web and i have found nothing (google just doesn't do anything for me anymore)

does anyone know all the config settings to get the 7650 to connect via ir to win xp?

it allways gets interupted or goes out of reach. and ive changed the tranfer type a million times and the connection speed. but nothing works. some better than others but still ends up cutting off.

can anyone give me a complete list of what needs to be done and what settings are needed to make the ir connection work. (speed, tranfer type etc...)

thanks

Well the number of people that have Pc Suite running on Xp is endangered! I used to have alot of problems with it, but i have no idea how i made it work!! 😮

I'm really sorry, i just can't remember. I'll try to do it all over again, and see what's the problem (if i can do it all over again, cause it's already done!!)

Not helpful but just to add my voice that I cannot connect through Irda on XP either and would also like any advice thrown this way...

what ir adapter have you got? any what drivers and versions have you got installed?

Well first - XP itself recognises the phone explicitly - ir systray icon says 7650 connected but I do think it might be related to drivers alright: I have a IR to USB adapter, pretty generic, "Chronos" I think is the make. It uses IRxpress driver. This driver is quite old and there doesn't seem to be any updates available anywhere on the net (via Google anyhow).

Its attached to my home PC, which Im not at at the moment, so cannot be more specific really - if you're interested in more specific info I'll be checking back to the forum in three hours or so from home...! 😊

Thanks Strats and Jesal for the comments: are either of ye using the Irxpress driver?

I'm beginning to wonder whether the driver is the problem - the driver is dated 11 January 2001, which is a pretty long time ago now. I can't find any more recent drivers, through the normal means, on the net...

ummmmm?

Might try uninstalling it and then connecting without using the drivers included with the adapter to see what happens... Haven't tried that...!

Hi

I'm running Win XP pro, with a Belkin IRDA adaptor.

I had a problem running PC suite at first, so I uninstalled it and then ran the setup with Windows 98 compatability (right click on the setup exe file, select properties and click on the Compatability tab). PC suite has worked fine ever since.

I've always had the same problem.but i managed to solve it.I am using a Sigmatel USB-IrDA Adaptor.

1. connect ur IrDA to the USB(if u have a laptop with an inbuilt Ir port, then go to step 2.
2. go to control panel & click on wireless link.
3. go to hardware tabv...then click on properties.
4. click on advanced ..then in the property type select INFRARED TRANSRECEIVER TYPE & in the value i have chosen SIGMATEL 4000.
5. Now see that the nokia PC suite is loaded & also check if the M-Router software is also loaded.
6. Open the propeties of M-router & select the port where ur infrared port is.

I had a problem as my laptop has not given acom port no to my USB port.
So i needed to create a virtual com port (COM 0)
I downloaded this software (IrCOM2K from http://www.ircomm2k.de/english/)& then loaded it & restarted the comp. now in M-router it shows me a few more com ports. It usually works & connects to the 7650 with the COM 0 or COM 15 or COM 6. Just keep selecting till one works with ur 7650.
Now i can install anything using pc suite & also back up all stuff.

hope this works. let me know if it does. it now does with my laptop.

Cheers

Oh just to clarify this problem... With PCSuite installed I have the little Mrouter thing... opening this I see three comm ports (though I've physically only two) plus "infrared connnection". On "infrared connection" it says "connected". The icon is blue and yellow happy type connection icon. What I just noticed is, if I right click and select 'change devices' there are no devices listed here at all ! - neither known or unknown... Does this ring any bells with anyone?

Plus: I don't understand what's the point of Ircomm drivers on XP if Ircomm is already built in? When I tried installing ircomm drivers, I got the message "virtual comm [or something] already in use..."

if u have an inbuilt IR port then u dont need IRComm. Also u said that ur M-router connects properly.
So what happens when u open 7650 Pc Suite. Does it show connected there, so what?
let me know what happens.
It might say Not Connected or something else.
One more thing....when u connect with m-router then just click & open its properties. does it show u that a 7650 is connected. if not just click on the Infrared icon & try again. this time it will dissconnect , then u press it again & now it should show connected to 7650 or something.
also from control panel, try to change the value of the IR controller & try again.
let me know what happens when after the m-router is connected & u open the 7650 pc suite.

i hav successfully uses pcsuite with xp home and pro. The 1st time I installed not ok, then i re-install my xp, then install the ir driver, plug in the the ir adaptor(thru usb, mobile action), then install pc suite, early stage, connect your 7650 to the ir(make sure this works 1st before install pc suite) then the installation will proceed. After installed, start pc suite, connect your 7650, go to m-router select infrared, it should be connected and there u go.

Hey just a question.

I brought a pinnacle TV tuner and it comes armed with a remote which interfaces with the computer via IR. XP will accept this Com port device as an IRDA device.

But for some reason I also cant get this to work.

Do I have a hope in hell of getting this to work with my phone?
Or should I just forget about it and move on?

Then again I just saw a thread on here and the guy said buy a cheap IR wireless mouse and use that as your IR Port.

So maybe I can use my remote port?

an IR port is an IR port. I am sure u can get anything that has an IR on it to work, the whole idea is that instead of using a cable u can do things wirelessly. But as lots of wires are of different kinds u might need to change some settings etc for the ir to work with any other device.
This seems logical to me. but i dont know i might not be logically logical.... :-? ... or is what i said logical enough? im confused... :agrue:  :-?

HyPeR

no shit its logical
Ive spent many an hr tweaking on it yet to no avail
i was starting to think it was not possible that was my problem
and what I was inquirying into

By the way where can i find and what is this IRComm app being reffered to?

if u look at the 1st page . u'll see the link that i had put for the ircomm.
anyways here it is

http://www.ircomm2k.de/english/

Gauravonline, thanks for your interest... I don't have an inbuilt port but am using a USB-Irda adaptor (with Irxpress driver). The properties in mrouter say, for infrared, 'connected'. But when i go to the "change device" option there is nothing listed anywhere. When I launch PCSuite, it says, within the PCSuite frame, disconnected while still, in systray, saying connected! I get a dialog box in PCSuite which gives me no option but to close the program... (Don't understand what you mean by "value of IR controller" - you said earlier about typing in SIGMATEL I know but not sure what I'd put in... though the IR is actually working, just not with PCSuite..?)

hi

I can't connect to my N7650 via Irda. I use win2000. Here's a list of things that i tried:
1. Install service pack.
2. Install Ircomm2k.
3. Change settings of driver (transmission speed etc.)
4. Reinstall drivers.
5. Set original phone settings.
Has anyone any other idea?
