What changes have you noticed in firmware V11.0.026

53 replies · 13,336 views · Started 01 May 2007

From hearing how my phone was going to be enhanced + finally managing to suss out NSS on Vista I have got my new firmware!

:icon14: From the first load up you can tell it's much nippier, something has been fixed when you're mooching around the menus as sometimes in the previous firmware it lagged slightly and got a wee bit choppy. But now its smooth as a cucumber!

:icon14: Camera quality is slightly better, it's apparent when you're taking picture the focusing is alot quicker snaps up good photos with better colouring as last firmware was just off the mark by being too dark.

:icon4: GPS, well. To me there is no difference! It eventually picked up the first fix of signal but kinda lost it, then came back. But it's nothing I'm not used to! ;o)

This is a must have firmware update - and if you love your little n95..GET IT!

I upgraded yesterday. I have to say that I haven't noticed any improvement; the upgrade has definitely taken place as I no longer have the Web n' Walk icon and have a couple of extra things like Push To Talk.

Things that I had been looking forward to where speed up in camera opening times and GPS satellite lock-on times, but they both seem the same as before.

I'm not sure the media menu is any faster than before either. So, my opinion is that if you're not sure about whether to go through the hassle of upgrading, then it's probably not worth it.

The camera auto-focussing time is what's picked up.
The video is also smoother.
But on the downside, it crashes WAY more than my previous O-2 FW.

I think I've found a bug with 11.0.026, I flashed my Orange branded phone to the EURO1 unbranded firmware and when I go to "Settings > Phone > Call" the settings app quits and takes me back to Menu. Does this happen to anyone else?

Yep - my O2 branded N95 done this on the earlier firmware (v10.xx) ... do a soft rest - *#7370# - that fixed mine.

Cheers

Well, I'm not sure its a bug - but it's sure annoying! Since changing the product code on my Orange phone, updating to the new firmware and putting changing the product code back it seems that I'm unable to connect to orangewap or orangeinternet when the handset is connected to the 3G network - it just times out (2G is absolutely fine). Now I've tried flashing the phone a couple of time with various variants (plum & euro1 etc) and still the same. I've not put my memory card or any backup anywhere near the phone, and done soft resets on the phone each time. *Everything* else seems absolutly fine and I've had no lockups or reboots since putting the new revision on. I'm guessing I'm pretty much certain to be the only one experiencing this one, but had anyone heard of Orange locking out handsets based on product codes / firmware revisions etc? Tbh I'm not even sure if its possible and even if it was, why would it just be on the 3G data networks? Makes no sense to me ... oh and I've used setup.orange.co.uk to resend the settings, I've had tier 2 data resend me the settings and I've stuck them in myself - all no change.
Thanks in advance - will post as a new thread too, just seemed a nice place to start.

Doesnt do this with my Orange De-Branded FW.

Have you tried formatting the handset internal memory with *#7370#

?

Answered you in other thread, buit just in case you didn't see my post, check the packet data access point setting is not blank (should be orangeinternet)

Work's when I format the phone, but as soon as i restore from the backup it doesn't. Looks like I'll have to set up my phone from scratch.... again 😞

Just notived that java apps are running alot faster since the update. Jabplite used to take 15 to 20 seconds to do things, now it's almost instant.

Hooray! Holding the # key down now sets the phone to Silent mode. Didn't work before with the Orange firmware :icon14:

That in itself was enough for me to do it - Orange use it to swap to the 2nd line - same issue was reported on the N80

You cannot reliably restore a Nokia backup if you have either upgraded the FW or de-branded the FW, even if it's the same version number.

Use PC suite to synchronise contacts, calendar etc. but you need to manually reinstall any apps you had in the internal phone memory. Memory card based apps should re-install themselves (subject to valid certificates in the card)

Hope this clears things up? 😎

Everything went fine for me with the debrand and update but last night I tried to watch a film and it crashed the phone, the NOKIA logo came up and it just froze, I managed to switch it off but when I switched it back on the NOKIA logo froze again but there were lines all over the phone! Luckily the third time worked and it seems OK again!

Everything went fine for me using PCsuite to backup, flash, then restore on my Orange N95. It even kept text messages and Internet settings. All apps I've tried work fine, but I didn't install anything before upgrading. Incidentally I don't have an SD card (Orange don't seem to provide one)

EDIT: There was a slight wobble when the restore finished - The phone froze, and I have to say I was a little worried that I'd bricked the machine. I took out the battery and restarted and everything was fine.

If you restore a backup from a previously Orange branded phone you will lose the 'Internet call app' again.

Much better to reinstall setting etc manually

Hi,

Is the "internet call app" downloadable from Nokia or do I have reflash (or reset?) to get it back then do the manual install?

Cheers

EDIT: Just got it back with the soft reset code. Cheers

Yes, restore factory settings or *#7370# will both restore the Inetnet Call App if it was lost due to restoring an out of date backup.

😡 My debranded (product code 0534841) Orange N95 now is usable as I wanted, sip, camera, better WiFi but I appear to have lost the option for 'Line Change' and 'Line in Use' are not available.
When I debranded my N70 although the 'HASH' key no longer swaped lines there was still the option to change lines in Call Settings.
How can I go about getting my ALS (line 2) back?
Thanks in advance.

Hi

I've upgraded my version 10x firmware to the new version 11x however I have noticed that in the access point settings the "ENABLE HIGH SPEED" option is missing where it had been previously. Has anyone else noticed this? also for those on t-mobile web n walk as myself does the lack of this option mean that we are just getting normal 3g speeds??

This not a fact on my unbranded device with firmware 11.0.026. It still has the "ENABLE HIGH..." option available. However this option is only available/visible as long as I'm on a 3G network/within 3G network coverage =>
- If the phone is set to "GSM only" mode the option is removed.
- If the phone is set to "Dualband" but I'm in an area where only GSM has coverage I don't see the option.

Hi Al,

There are only certain product codes which feature ALS (Line 2). Orange does - some Euro regions don't.

I think 0548364 has ALS, and some dude on the Nokia forum said he was sold it as a generic SIM free device from the Car Phone Warehouse, and he sees no evidence of branding, it also supports ALS. But, I read somewhere that the product code 0548364 is for CPWGRAPHITE UK 02... it could be that CPW just have a load of graphite N95's that are SIM free which they will sell with whatever contracts. Hence one person thinking it was the CPW UK 02 Graphite.

Be interested to know how it goes for you if you change to it?
