And FREE tip !
Once you've installed Nemesis to change your product code, you won't be able to do $h*t unless your N95 is in USB PC Suite as opposed to data transfer mode.
Some other questions answered : -
Prior to installing Nemesis, you don't need to uninstall, close or otherwise deactivate any windows progs or procs.
In Nemesis window, click the far right button (scan FND), then Phone Info and in the RH window, click Read - it'll show the phone's product code.
To change that proddy code, just paste in the one you'd like and click Write.
Yes, it's as simple as that !
If you wish to check the new code, just close Nemesis, re-open and read the device info again.
You are now ready to update your firmware.
If you already have Nokia Software Updater, load it and it'll walk you through the process.
If not, download it from Nokia (doesn't matter that N95's not listed, just take it for the N93 - it's the same proggy).
Follow the prompts and wait patiently for your new, debranded device.
The phone restarts a couple of times during the flash .. you can be pretty happy once you see a message Test Mode .. on the screen
don't touch the phone and ensure you are either charging it or its completely charged.
I recommend PC Suite vs any other mode. will be testing relative speeds with this firmware soon.
Good Luck!😊
Do you mind telling me what you did in terms of backing up your device to PC Suite before flashing it? Once you restored the settings etc did everything work correctly?

You won't get it to run your phone in any other mode !
I would also caution AGAINST having the charger connected during flashing !
The NSU warning to ensure your battery is well charged is more than sufficient for the desired effect.

I did nothing.
Why ?
Two reasons : -
1) - The device is effectively, a different one.
2) - Restoring from backup (even to the same device) is sub-optimal, at the best of times.
2) - Always start afresh for best results. 😃
How about your contacts? I read somewhere that the flash doesnt touch them and read somewhere else that it does....
Also, would you format the memory card as well?
deluxe99 wrote:How about your contacts? I read somewhere that the flash doesnt touch them and read somewhere else that it does....Also, would you format the memory card as well?
The phone memory will be wiped - so no more onboard contacts.
I suggest you back them up to SIM (delete all SIM contacts first, then copy phone contacts over) - or if you have more than will fit to SIM, backup to PC with PCS or Outlook, etc.
No need to format your memory card, it's gunna stay FAT16 regardless - so the 'new' device sees it exactly the same.
So it'd be a complete waste of your time UNLESS you have say TomTom on it - in which case, you may want to back it all up to PC, format and then re-apply as required.
i can confirm that you lose everything 😉
except stuff on the sim / memory cards (i forgot to take mine out, d'oh). changed the product code to EURO1 with NSS, ran NSU, flashed, changed product code back (thought the network might get funny about it) then all is working fine.
however the firmware doesn't seem to have changed a whole lot - happy it all worked but a bit disappointed it still crashes 😞
did you backup to PC Suite and then restore all the settings (i.e internet, MMS, GPRS etc)
deluxe99 wrote:did you backup to PC Suite and then restore all the settings (i.e internet, MMS, GPRS etc)
Why don't you back it up and restore ?
Then if there's issues, you can just hard reset.
If you don't want to risk losing all your settings because of the flash, then play safe and enjoy your outdated, branded FW. 😃
deluxe99 wrote:Do you mind telling me what you did in terms of backing up your device to PC Suite before flashing it? Once you restored the settings etc did everything work correctly?
since the micro card isn't involved, leave that.😉
Did flash .. restored .. results were .. all contacts / messages / images etc restored. My theme and wallpaper was also restored.
Most of .. but not all my phone installed applications required reinstallation.
Once all these apps were restored my Active Standby Apps replaced the default ones - weirdness there.:con?
If you've backed everything up .. take the plunge .. and dont panic! if the phone resets itself a few times .. its part of the process. 😃
Also had success changing the code on my Orange N95 to the EURO one using Nemsis (NSS), then running the Nokia Software Update to upgrade.
A lot easier than I thought it was going to be!

Ain't it just ?
Candy from a baby.
There's gotta be a lorra lorra happy Orange/Voda-flashers out there.
Just flashed my Vodafone N95 to a generic Euro1 code then updated the firmware. All went fine and suprisingly easy. I backed up everything before using PC suite but when I went to restore it the phone said "Phone startup failed. Contact your retailer." Had to do the factory reset thing but now everything is up and running fine.
Menu speed and camera speed is much improved - havent tried GPS yet but most things seem to be a step up.
One thing though - I've lost all my txt messages on the phone - but using PC suite the messages are still on the phone - is there a way to transfer them from the PC to the phone? I can't find a way...
Right, installed nemesis, changed n95 prod code, then pc crashed during nsu installation. So I restarted and now nsu and nemesis don't show the n95. the nsu says no updates available and nemesis fails to 'read' when I click the read button (nothing happens). Phone still works ok and pc suite still recognises it as an n95. any ideas?
All help would be greatly appreciated:
i've changed my product code succesfully with NSS. I put the phone in 'PC Suite mode' and start Nokia Software Updater, it recognises the phone and says that there is new firmware. Once i try to install the update, it moves to about 5% completed and then my phone seems to disconnect from the USB port before NSU tells me that i need to remove the phone battery then put it back it and press 'retry'. It says "Phone Recovery" at the top of NSU. Weird eh? Seems like its running out of batteries even though i've tried it with the charger attached and without.
Maybe i have the wrong NSU?
Wow, it really is easy. BTW, the t-mobile branded product code (for me anyway) was 0546659
Anyone who is on T-Mobile branded firmware, I can assure you that the upgrade is easy and safe. I did from a T-Mobile to Euro 1 and then up. Here is my guide:
1) Full backup through PC Suite
2) Use NSS to change from old prod code to the Euro 1 plum code (see the sticky thread)
3) Ran the Nokia Software Updater and installed the firmware
4) Restored the backup
I got all my contacts, calendar entries and settings back as well as:
All my java apps (and TomTom which was completely unaffected) and games!
Podcast app, subscribed podcasts and directories
Bookmarks
SIP settings
Text/Multimedia Messages
Call Logs
Themes
It even set my active standby back how it was
Basically, with the exception of SIS installed software, I got everything back! I actually had to check the firware version to be reassure myself it'd even changed at all!

I had the same problem, i tried every usb port on my pc but no go, in the end i went and used my brothers laptop and worked fine first try
An annoying thing; After installing the missing apps their icons weren't there. I had to uninstall and reinstall to get them back (I guess this is to do with remaining files after the upgrade). It's really tedious though cos you have to install it first for it to show up in the apps list and then be uninstallable.
Bascially that means install, uninstall, install for every app. Works though and at least I only had a few apps to do
Well after my earlier mentioned problems I now have this:
When I connect my phone to the usb cable and select pc suite mode my phone no longer shows up in pc suite, nemesis or the nsu. If it still is running as a service name what is this and how do I get rid of it?
Thanks for any help!
I'd reinstall.
Go into device manager and uninstall the phone then reboot and connect the phone in pc suite mode, let it find and reinstall it.

It doesn't appear in device manager. It's finding the phone and trying to install it, but claims the service is already running. Whatever that means.
i'm gonna go for don't use vista?

Crashed ?
Is it overclocked or something ?
You running it on L-N2 ? 😃
You need to do it on a stable rig - or you're gunna end up sorry.
I'd leave out doing anything until you've stabilised it.
Yes, really.
jman200x wrote:i'm gonna go for don't use vista?
Nice try but it's XP, I've just changed the theme 😞
I'd say just uninstall, reboot and reinstall PC Suite...
You could try a hard reset *#7370#
Right, first off thanks for the help guys. I tried everything you said but none of it worked, so I sifted through the threads at nokia support and put together a collection of fixes. I uninstalled pc suite 6.83 (the latest version) and the nokia cable drivers and pc connectivity suite. Then I went through regedit and deleted everything with nokia in the name and anything with nmwcd, which is apparently linked to the dodgy new cable drivers. A swift reboot and I installed the older 6.28.22 version of pc suite. This recognised my n95 in pc suite mode and installed the correct cable drivers. Then nsu updated those cable drivers to a newer version (which is where it all went wrong last time) but this time they recognised the n95 (which I left plugged in since the old pc suite picked it up). Looks like the nemesis product code switch stuck from earlier too, as a new update was found and is currently downloading. Fingers crossed!

1. Synchronise your contacts, calendar, notes and bookmarks via PC Suite.
2. Flash
3. Synchronise your contacts, calendar, notes and bookmarks via PC Suite.
4. Re-create your connection settings (MMS, Internet, GPRS, Email) using the Settings Wizard in the N95 Tools folder
Do NOT backup/restore using the memory card tool.

If you set messages to be stored on the Memory Card, you don't lose them after a flash upgrade. (Messages -> Settings -> Other -> Memory in use -> Memory Card
Too late now, but worth remembering for the next time you flash the FW. 😉
