Another successful N95 (to generic) FW flash

Thank you to everyone on the thread for their advice. After some brief problems with the software update (my PC kept failing at the point where the phone shuts down and the PC should load the BB5 software), i managed to get Nokia Software Updater running succesfully on a laptop.

So i now have what is essentially a brand new de-branded phone running TruVoip and with the Internet Call feature!

Can't seem to find Nokia Podcasting though....is that missing from the new firmware?

I had this problem too - I'm sure this was because I had the Nokia connected via a USB hub, once I plugged the cable directly into my PC it worked fine.

Mine stayed on my phone through the upgrade but the app is downloadable from Nokia's website anyway.

Did mine on a hub no problem.
Is your rig overclocked ?

That must be exactly what it was.......i had mine connected via a hub and then it worked using a direct connection. Interesting point to note!

I've taken the plunge and updated the firmware on my T-Mobile (carphone warehouse supplied with graphite case). I did a backup, changed the product code to 0536062 for EURO1 and ran the updater then used the updater to replace the settings.

All is fine apart from my web connection. The access points are in the settings menu as they were before, but when I try to connect to the web with the T-Mobile Internet access point the phone never manages to connect.

The '3G' logo at the top of the screen flashes with the two broken arrows below it, and the meeage 'Connecting' is displayed at the bottom of the screen but it never connects. My first guess is that the username and password might be wrong, but as they were already on the phone when I got it, I have no idea what the password should be, and that's if it's wrong. Help!!

Do I need to change the product code back to the original one with NSS?

People need to learn that restoring from memory is a waste of time.
It's like upgrading to XP from 98 - it just ain't happening.
Hard reset and start afresh.

Nah, no need. It must have been a network service issue that coincided with my update. The 3G internet has suddenly fixed itself, so in my case the backup feature of nokia suite worked just fine.

1. Run the settings wizard to setup your GPRS and Internet connections for T-Mob.
2. Check that CONNECTIONS -> PACKET-DATA -> ACCESS POINT is not blank
3. No, you don't need to reset the product code.

Hope this helps.

Heh yes, but very stable. I don't think it is because it is overclocked, otherwise it would fail whether it was via a hub or direct connect?

A sure fire way of ensuring stability is to reduce FSB (or equivalent) to such that you can run at CAS 2.0.
Less than than often results in sub-optimal hardware performance.
