Slowly getting to grips with the features anf functions of the N95 in general reasonable impressed.
I have managed to set my email account via the nokia UK site and can no now get my emails on my phone great !
However i was a bit concernd at the data usage this would generate and after I looked at it it was quite high for one days use only !.
I had it set to automatically check for new email.
Is their a way to get push and filter the emails i want rarther than getting all .
Regards
Zeberdy
Check emoze.com
remember when installing the symbian version you choose the N73 instead of N95. Else it will not install.
works great for me with free pushmail and your excisting e-mail account.

Thanks Doeloe this looks very interesting indeed. From what I've read on this forum the last few weeks 'push email' is not available on the N95, I guess emoze changes this, thus making the N95 on a par with Blackberry for real time email (?).
I'm interested in using it for when I work out of the office, so would be interested in hearing how good it really is from you or anyone else who uses it.
I see it's free also, how are your data charges using this and can you turn off the inbox (for holidays etc)
Thank you.
Has anyone tried MailforExchange v1.3.0 with the n95? I know the latest version (v1.5.0) doesn't work, but some people have reported success with the n80 and v1.3.0 which also doesn't work with v1.5.0.
I'm trying to get work to buy the n95 for me, but it will be a deal breaker if it won't sync to our Exchange server for free (so Roadsync isn't an option). Otherwise it'll have to be an e65 and lose out on HSDPA and all the other toys.
Cheers.
Nope. M4E does NOT work at all on the N95 properly. Version 1.3.1 installs, and the calendar/contacts are ok. The Email is not working (probably uses different mail database structure).
The only thing that works is Roadsync from Datawiz - and its $59 a pop (and fairly buggy at times still).
Thanks for the info bchliu. looks like I might have to settle for the e65 then :frown: . Or fork out for Roadsync myself.

Actually... M4E v1.3 works, inasmuch as it fetches email from an Exchange server based on a schedule or even as a "push." What it does _not_ do is open the emails (you get an error message); all you can see is the email headers.
However... there is a workaround.
Install M4E 1.3 and set it up the way you want it (schedule to fetch email, access point, etc etc). Then, download M4E v1.5 from the Nokia Business Software page, and install it on top of M4E 1.3. Voila! You can now open emails and edit them. What you can't do now is change settings... for that, you need to install v1.3 and change settings there, then reinstall v1.5... I know, this is not optimal, but if you don't need to fiddle around too much with the program settings, this is an acceptable workaround that costs exactly $0... :icon14:
Thanks to Howard Forums for this great workaround! And Nokia, please get a working version of M4E for the N95, so I can go back to the store and buy it again! (Yes... long story... I had to return the phone, but I know I will get it again in a couple of months...)
ramm - thanks for that. If that does indeed work, then I'd be happy with that. As I'm our Exchange sysadmin anyway, I know our settings aren't going to be changing that much 😊
If anyone else has tried this successfully, a post here would be great so I know it works consistently. Or a pointer to the thread where this is discussed would be great.
Cheers 😃
I read the same solution on an other forum.
i've accually tried this! But after setting everything up, I upgraded to version 1.6(latest), not 1.5, and it didn't work. I still couldn't open my mails.
I never heard anyone mention version 1.5? is there one? if such, how do you get it, and most importantly, can anyone comfirm if this works?:con?
Right now I'm using emoze which I'm not too thrilled over.
I want something like roadsync, but without the bugs, and perhaps free?!😉
Emoze accually uses alot more data just to check for mails than roadsync, so putting it on "push" really drains my bankaccount.
I sure wish Nokia would provide us with a decent email solution for there "Flagship":frown:
BTW, do you guys now how to keep emails in symbians own emailclient? I mean, if you check for mails and download some, next time you connect to your mailserver, all your old mails disappears, and only new mails are shown in your mailbox?
Thanks guys! I sure get alot of help from this forum!:icon14: 😊
Question about emoze.com - I assume that although the service is free and the emails are being pushed and not pulled there still must be a data charge?
Or is it like a text message which are free to receive?
No, there is a charge from using your data connection... :thumpdown
And your connection is constantly active and sending/reciveing bytes, even though it's suposed to be push, not pull.... wierd isn't it?! 😕
Oh right thanks - think I'll give that a miss then....
I asked in another thread, but I'll mention it again here:
Does the n95 support Imap Idle? This should let you use that for push on any server that supports it. I found a PDF about series 60 that mention Imap Idle, but I can't actually check it (haven't taken the plunge yet).
I thinking of switching from a Windows Mobile phone to the n95, and wanted to make sure there's a push email option (that isn't Emoze) available to me. RoadSync sounded good, but is it really that buggy?
If email is as important to you as it is to me, then yes, Roadsyncs bugs are enough to put me off.
I used to use it all the time on my SE M600i. It was brilliant. But on the N95 there were all sorts of bugs that made it feel unstable. I use email all day, it's my bread and water, so I need something that 110% reliable.
As for Imap idle, I can't really aswer you, as I never really been using Imap. I know that that you can use Imap on N95, but not sure about imap idle.
Perhaps someone could help us with this?
I read you've been using Windows mobile, me too, alot. And that's probably the only thing I really miss, a really good built in email client...🙄
But symbian has a lot of nice features, not to mention it's nice with a change...😊

Hmm... I see version 1.5... I just joined the forum, so I can't actually post the link, but visit businesssoftware.nokia.com, click on Mail For Exchange, and you should see v 1.5 as well.
Yes, I can confirm that this trick works. I used it for an entire week, synchronizing every 15 minutes over Wi-Fi with my corporate Exchange server. Worked like a charm, except when I had to change the Wi-Fi access point, which, as I mentioned above, required a re-install of v 1.3. Give it a try!

I think I might have answered my own question. I found several mentions of Imap Idle on the N95, then I found a link to Cortado's site by Googling "cortado imap idle" (second hit, sorry, can't post the link because the forum won't let me).
The N95 is listed as a supported device, and from what I've read, as long as Automatic Retrieval is configured it should work.
The last line of the setup PDF says "Now you can retrieve and send e-mails with your Nokia Nseries device via IMAP Push".
An awful lot of mail servers support Imap Idle, it's just not very well promoted.
I'd be very interested in hearing if someone can test this (maybe with the free Cortado account - it supports Imap Idle; just configure and go!).
Hey, that's really great news!
I'll try it tonight! Thanks alot!
I'm using the latest version of Roadsync, and I have not experienced a single bug so far. It is working like a flaw for me.
Can you plz describe the typical error you get when using Roadsync?
Has anyone got emoze working with Outlook Web Access? I keep getting timeout errors.
It works ok with the desktop connector but it'd be handy if I didn't have to leave my work PC on all the time
Bugs so far in Roadsync I have noticed:
1) Exchange server connectivity issues - I have mine default on GPRS to download every 1hr peak and 6 hours off. Sometimes (about once or even twice a day) it will try to download and come back with an https error saying that the server could not be reached. This is happening even when the bars are full and GPRS access is fine as well as the exchange server (E2k3SP1).
2) Access point issues - I had to reset the access point data at least half a dozen times since my phone was purchased 3 weeks ago. The network is working through these access points (we checked it out and was all well). From this point on, email downloads will stop working unless you restart the phone.
Final thing (Not a bug, but a crappy feature)
the Roadsync does not run properly as a service but rather like a background app. It is annoying that this program is always in memory (hence less pages to read as well).

Hi Ramm,
Could you please explain, exactly how you installed to get M4E to work?
I've tried every possible way, but it just doesn't work!
After 1.3 is installed and all the settings are done. Did you first do one initial sync with 1.3 or did you directly install 1.5? I tried first without doing any syncs with first version, but when 1.5 is installed, there's no M4E mailbox in your mess app. So I reinstalled 1.3 and did a sync first. So I had the mailbox and some emails in it, which didn't open ofcourse. So I installed 1.5 but then the mailbox was gone?! :banghead:
I even tried to download both the European version AND the Asian version of 1.5 even though I'm pretty sure they are exactly the same!
PLEASE, could you tell me exacly how it's done. I can't leave this alone now, untill I got it. I also tried restarting my phone between. But no luck...:dontknow:

rooster,
Unfortunately, I no longer have my phone :frown:, but I am pretty certain this is how I did it:

Install M4E 1.3

Set it up to your liking (connection, server, frequency of sync, etc)

Do a sync -- Contacts, Calendar and Email should download. Emails won't open, of course

Install M4E 1.5 on top of 1.3

Do a sync

Go to the Messaging application, and scroll past SMS and POP email (if any), and you should see your Exchange inbox folder contents... and you should be able to open emails as well as compose them!
I am pretty sure that is how it worked for me... I definitely had 1.3 already synching before I installed 1.5. Good luck, let us know how it worked for you!
Hi Ramm,
Thanks alot!
I finally found a way. My problem was that the Exchange inbox wasn't there after the 1.5 install. So what I did was to create a new exchange email from the options meny, then save it to drafts, THEN from options you can choose sync, and the mailbox came back!
Thanks alot anyways, and I bet you miss your phone...
rooster80, thanks man. I can now get back the Exchange mailbox after v1.5 installed and it's working.
The limitation is the setting cannot be changed as and when needed, e.g changing access point, sync schedule, etc. Another limitation is there's no sync log / status display (though there's an icon showing sync in progress).
Yeah, Mail for Exchange is working just fine now.
If you really need to make some changes in setting it doesn't really take that long to overwrite with 1.3 then overwrite back to 1.5. Done in less than three minutes...
BTW I just installed Nokia's new "search". Uninstall the one that came with the phone and install the new version 2.5. Now you can search for stuff on your phone and mem card. pretty neat! (Sorry for leaving the subject.)
True, i can always re-install 1.3 and then 1.5 to make setting changes but i wish Nokia can gives us M4E on N series.
BTW, latest Mobile Search v3.05 is availabile.
So I've been doing a little research into what options I have for using Exchange Mail on my N95 and saw this tread and mention of RoadSync. I've managed to download a 30 day trail version to give it a go and so far I'm quite impressed. I've probably not used it enough to give it a seasoned user's stamp of approval but so far so good...
One question though, for anyone else using it, it seems it only notifies you of new mail with an audible sound and not any display notification on screen. I also sync mail with a standard POP mailbox and get a display notification on new mail - any ideas if this can be done with RoadSync?
cheers!

Are you able to open emails in "Mail for Exchange". Last time I tried I got an error message that "messages could not be opened".
Is this solved with a certain version of Mail for exchange?

Yes jorang, there is a solution using Mail for Exchange. Please see posts #7 and #22 in this very same thread.
