Got my N95 on Friday. Flashed it to latest firmware. It seems to do everything it should do, but keeps dropping my home WLAN connection. My home WLAN is visible, restricted to allowed MAC addresses only, and it does this even with encryption turned off. It doesn't seem to be any kind of deliberate power-saving feature, because it can drop the connection even in the middle of a data transfer. I see that under tools - settings - connections - wlan settings there are optional advanced settings: Long Retry Limit, Short Retry Limit, RTS Threshold, TX power level, and power saving. Would it be worth trying changes here?
Has anybody else experienced anything similar? I supposed I should test it in a different WLAN. If the problem persists should I send the N95 back for a replacement?
Sorry. I now see the thread "N95 & WiFi dropping", which showed up in a google search but not a forum search :-|
try turning power saving to Off in advanced settings and tx power level. Some reported that this solved the wifi dropping problem at the expense of more battery power.
Yeah I have the same issue too. Try streaming a video, or an album, only for the stream/WLAN to cut out half way (or usually about 10 minutes) into the stream.
The WLAN seems pretty buggy.
It shouldn't go into power saving mode during WiFI transfers surely?
I have the same problem.
It is driving me mad! Only had it since updating the firmware, though...
mib1800: thanks, I tried that. It seems pretty steady now but I've broken the cardinal rule of Process Engineering and done two things at once. That is, in addition to the change you suggested, I've set up a Sipgate profile to be permanently on. With that automatically registering itself whenever I'm in range of my home wifi, maybe that's helping to keep the connection open... Judging by the temperature of the damn thing, it's probably also helping to drain the battery in minutes, but if I keep the handset on the charger most of the time I'm in the house that shouldn't be a problem.
Yeah, it sure feels like the battery is draining faster now.😡
So now we know that using the following apps drains the battery:
1. GPS
2. Camera
3. Wifi
4. 3G/UMTS
5. Mp3s
6. Radio
7. Phonecalls
8. Any use of the screen
9. Looking at it for too long
Did I leave anything out? :s:
The price we pay, I suppose, for being at the bleeding edge of technology. Personally, I think it's a price worth paying: you should have seen the smug look on my face yesterday evening as I made a sip call because the wife was on the main phone, then reclined on my sofa watching Steve Litchfield's podcast about the N95... on an N95!
I've now ordered a spare 1000mAH battery from Foneshop and a twin charger from MobilePlace.
