God damn it, this makes me throw my N70 on the nearest thrash can. Too bad it haves a joystick, but the keypad really looks good.
Thanks Krisse, I am eagerly waiting on your review of the 5700,in the meantime I do have a couple of questions:
1. The 5700 has a dedicated audio chip, did you notice any big improvements in sound quality between the 5700 and say the N73 ME.
2. How good is the 2MP camera, is it still at Nokia's high-standard for non-AF 2MP cameras.
3. The 5700 has (on paper) a much faster 369MHz CPU, but in reality is it any faster than a N73 or on par with a N95.
4. Whats the sound quality of the stereo speakers like.
5. Whats your impression on the dedicated music keys on the phone, handy to have or not.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
"1. The 5700 has a dedicated audio chip, did you notice any big improvements in sound quality between the 5700 and say the N73 ME."
Difficult to say as I haven't used a N73, but I will try to compare the 5700's sound quality with various phones in the review.
"2. How good is the 2MP camera, is it still at Nokia's high-standard for non-AF 2MP cameras."
Depends what you mean by high standards! 😉 I'll post some sample photos in the review so you can judge for yourself just how good the camera is.
"3. The 5700 has (on paper) a much faster 369MHz CPU, but in reality is it any faster than a N73 or on par with a N95."
Sorry to keep avoiding straight answers, but it's not quite as simple as that any more. The 5700 has a single CPU which runs at 369 mhz, so it is faster than most previous S60 phones. However, many new S60 models such as the N95 have dual processors, so you can't directly compare their clock speed with single processor models.
This is the same thing we're seeing in the PC world, multi-processor technology is making the clock speed of computers somewhat meaningless.
I'll see if I can do some sort of benchmark test in the review so that these different phones can be compared.
On first impressions the system menus etc are as fast as a normal phone, there's none of the old S60 slowness you got on 2nd Edition or 1st Edition models.
"4. What’s the sound quality of the stereo speakers like."
The 5700's speakers do sound relatively good, the quality is crisper than on previous phone speakers I've used. They're quite loud too, the phone itself rattles if you get near the maximum volume.
"5. What’s your impression on the dedicated music keys on the phone, handy to have or not."
I'm actually very pleased with them. The keys are really huge and easy to press, as you can see from the photo above they take up almost the entire surface area of the twister. It's easy to access them, you just twist the keypad round (the twisting mechanism feels very slick and sturdy so far).
Also, you can find the correct key even without looking at the controls because the centre button is concave, which is good if the phone in your pocket or bag.
Whether you personally want external music controls on your phone or not is a matter of taste. It depends what kind of situations you use the music player in.
Hey are you hinting towards a 5300 & 5700 comparison, i would much like to see that because i have a 5300, and am considering buying a 5700

You'll have to wait and see... 😉
Hello and thank you for all the cutting news and reviews. I have a question, the 5700 has the 2.5mm audio jack but it comes with the 2.5mm to 3.5mm audio adaptor with music controls. Do you by any chance know the model number of that adapter (Nokia AD-??)? I'm actually waiting for the E90 and it doesn't look like it will come with this adapter, but I consider it an essential accessory for me and would like to start looking to see if I can get one from somewhere - it would help greatly to know the exact model number. Thank you very very much in advance.

According to the official tech specs, the adaptor is the Nokia AD-44.
(There's also an almost identical adaptor called the AD-43, however the AD-43 requires a phone to have a 3.5mm jack instead of a 2.5mm one.)
I'm not sure how easily the AD-44 is available separately however. If it's not officially available separately, you might find it in online stores that sell spare parts for phones.
What would really excite me about a 5300/5700 comparison is the 2 platforms. Considering the advancements s40 has made recently I'd really like to see an in-depth comparison between s40 and s60. Also seeing as Nokia is by far the most successful mobile phone company, in a weird kind of way S60's biggest competitor is series 40.
So it would be cool to see AAS deal with S40 more often. Even if just to reassure us that our smartphones kick dumbphone *ss.

I already have done one myself, last Sunday, between 6288 and N80. After years of S60, was a first with new S40, and I stay very impressed. S40 of today is a very good OS.
Incidentally, you can now see a 10 minute video of the 5700 in action (and some high res photographs too) by going to the Gadget Picture Show's 5700 page:

"would u mind telling us the estimated time for u to finish the review?....i'm really getting restless"
It should be ready by next thursday. I've only had the phone since last thursday, and I try to spend at least a week with every phone I review.
I'm not going to review a phone straight out of the box, that would just be another unboxing article rather than a proper review.
"when u put pictures in a sub-folder....when u mark all and press send...instead of sending all....u juz send one"
Send as in send by MMS? Email? Bluetooth?
send as in..sending a bunch of photos to a different folder or sub-folder
