Hi People,
I didn't notice these questions as they're in the unboxing thread. If you want me to respond more quickly, please put your Qs in the review thread (this isn't the review thread but the unboxing thread).
If I'm still not responding, send me a private message through this site's forum system.
I've answered almost all of your questions already in the 6110 review:
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/reviews/item/Nokia_6110_Navigator_Review.php
I'm not sure how much use I can be here, but I'll repeat what I said in the review.
"How long does it take for the GPS to find satellites from a hot-start."
1 to 2 minutes cold start, a few seconds hot start.
Please remember though that you should start the GPS when you're outside. It will get a fix very quickly as long as you're outside your house. There's absolutely no point trying to get a GPS fix while you're still at home.
"1-as someone used to PPC , and to Tomtom or I-go SOft. how the maps quality compared?"
I don't know, I haven't used any other GPS maps except Route 66 and Nokia Maps. As I said in the review, this is the first GPS unit I've ever used.
"2- if i dont have GPRS settings, how can i get extra maps for 6110?"
You can download the extra maps onto your PC using the Route 66 Sync software included on a CD in the sales package.
"3- the battery life, using GPS, did you experienced that?"
It was pretty good, I left GPS switched on (but in the background) with the phone in my pocket and was able to consult it all day as I went round town shopping. It was like having a pocket map.
"i just bought an nokia 6110 navigator it is a great phone. But there is a problem i got it with a preinstalled map of germany and i live in romania and if i whant romanian maps i have to pay for each city map 10euros.This seems lame to me after you pay ther price of a phone woth gps"
If you got a map of Germany included, that means you must have bought a phone intended for the German market. I don't know who handles Romanian distribution of the 6110, but they are the ones conning you if they're making you pay for non-Romanian maps.
"or an alternative software that i can use with this phone."
Yes, as I said in the review you can use ANY map software that is compatible with S60 3rd Edition, including Nokia Maps which is free to download.
"Is the screen not to small?? 2,2 inch"
It's okay, the QVGA resolution is high enough for navigation. You can see every road clearly. It's a lot better than the low res screens on older S60 devices. Obviously bigger screens are nicer, but if you make the screen too big it won't be a phone-sized device any more.
When you're in a moving car, it's much safer to rely on the spoken directions anyway, so the screen size is irrelevant in that situation.
"Your GPS map application should get only the direction information from a digital compass and not from the GPS.
A modern compass sensor also supports 3D direction information.
Would be cool to have it in a phone."
Ah, I see what you mean. Yes, you're right, it would be nice to supplement the hardware with a real compass.
"are you experiencing the same problem. register here or try to contact me through a private msg over here so we can debate about the problem cause it seems nobody wants to help!!!!!!!!"
I wasn't deliberately ignoring you. There are so many news items and related forum threads on this site, I can't look at all the threads about all the phones I've reviewed.
In any case, I answered all these questions in the actual review over a week ago.
