is it necersarry to update the phone software regularly?...i have been using Nokia phones for years...but have never ever updated my softwares....plus during update its deletes all contact messages photos ...etc (of cfcourse there is an option on backing up your data)....but yet seems dicy
has anyone updated their software recently???
would appreciate feed back....
I updated my old E61 a couple of months ago, and it couldn't have been simpler.
I updated my new N95 the other day, and altough a little more tricky due to having to de-brand it first, it was still easy.
My advice would be to follow all the instruction carefully, and once the update has started leave the computer and the phone well alone. Go and make a brew or something.
Also, dont forget to make sure you've got a full battery 😉
The only things I lost was a couple of apps that I had installed such as gmail etc, but it doesnt take long to get them back.
cheers steve....thanx for your advise...............any recommendation on what intervals should i update the software?.....my nokia E61i is barely a month old.....when should i update it first????
I would update it whenever there is an update.
But typically updates appear around every 4 to 6 months, depending on the phone. So, just do it when you remember.
Regarding contacts, etc..... When you update, you should be told to backup all your data, including contacts to the memory card, so you shouldn't lose much if anything. The only thing you may need to do is re-install some of your software.
K.
I just got an E60 and am going to update the software, just a few questions though.
If for some reason the upgrade screws up, can a Nokia Service Center easily repair it?
How much would they charge (ish)?
Just updated my E61's firmware. It was quite easy as long as you have some time to be patient to wait for it to go thru the motions. Why pay when you can do it yourself for free. Like the advice given before, just leave it alone to do its thing while it updates.
My firmware was quite old so after the update I was expecting some changes. Nothing major quite honestly. Unless they're all under the hood. WLAN seems to function slightly better than before. I was also expecting the active standby plugins to be there like on the E61i but alas it's not. Would have been nice to have the message/missed call notification & WLAN scanning there.
Tedious having to reinstall most if not all of my applications after that but it gave me a good opportunity to do a clean install of only apps I really use regularly. Messages, contacts & calendar info is still all there after the backup retrieval which is good.
BTW after my update some of the applications I previously installed in my memory card keeps asking me to reinstall them. Since I don't use them anymore I tried to delete them but I couldn't.
Is there any way to remove them? I tried to look for the folders manually via my PC but couldn't find them.
Maybe you re-install those applications. Then uninstall them, which is the correct way.
