Smart2Go, in beta for months, is finally about to go 'final', or as final as a version 1.0 can be. Note that it's NOT available yet - we'll shout when it is, in a few days. Listed below the break are most of the improvements, applicable to both the generic version and the 'Nokia Maps' brand within the N95 and E90. Lots that's new and AAS has got hold of an early copy. Rafe and I will be posting screenshots later today.
Read on in the full article.
It IS available, just download from smart2go.com 😊
At least for the N95...
Its a new version compared to what is available on the smart2go website. Honest!
Wot! No spee.... erm... safety-camera warnings?
Drive carefully enough to avoid being caught by speed cameras (or fast enough 😃).
I've just tried to install the new release, and it says "Installation of Nokia_Maps.sis" not supported. The beta works fine for me (although it's not speedy). I was trying to install the N70 version; anyone succeed in installing the new version on their E-series device?
Also, it would be nice if the Map Loader continued if a media card wasn't present. I wanted to load the India maps, for a trip to Bangalore, but after going to the trouble of ejecting my card, I discovered they're not available.
Another comment. There's only a single "Delete maps from device" button. Can't we delete just one or two countries? I don't want to have to re-download them all again. Has anyone written a Perl script or other utility to this? It seems like a major omission.
I should have added, I was trying to install the N70 version on an E70 device (since E70 wasn't in the supported list). When are Nokia going to support E-series devices?
Wow, a fantastic list of improvements! Mapping is my favorite app right now. Need to buy a GPS module now for sure.
i have V3.0 wk12 b02 OpenGL OpenBit MN
Hello,
I've just installed it and it seems that it doesn't show street and city names with unicode characters - this worked well in beta version. Now map data looks very weird in e.g. Poland.

Hi Rafe,
okay. Even more confusing my 'NOKIA_Maps_1_0_S60_update.SIS' from www,smart2go.com with 2,66 MB for the N95 also shows version
'v1.1wk23 b04'
as the one in your screenshot. But I will be glad if there is an even newer version 😊
Regards,
PM
I also got the v1.1, as in the screenshot, for my N73 from nokia.com/maps while smart2go.com didn't even list my phone.
installed over v3.0 without any problem.
obviously this is the latest pre-llaunch version of Nokia Maps.
as rafe mentioned, this is faster than the nokia map that came installed on n95.
It's faster, but I can't seem to clear the data bar at the bottom to find my GPS position button which used to be the right soft key on the N95...
Hi,
Some minutes ago I mentioned that this pre-launch version has problems with showing unicode/specific letters on the map (e.g. street, city names, descriptions with non-English letters).
Now I found another bug - when you search for cash mashines nearby, it shows doubled entries in results list (e.g. machineA, machineA, machineB, machineB, C, D, D, E...).
Everything was tested on N93 with latest Polish maps.
BR,
jack
P.S.
I'm slowly becoming main tester of this application 😊
Rafe have you downloaded maps faster via new Map Loader v1.1 or from the previous Map Loader v1.0? I am asking this because v1.1 is not available in smart2go's website.
Guys how did you install smart2go software to your N95? Did you choose generic? Did you directly install or delete the pre-installed application in advance before installing the new software?
I couldn't install it to my N95 with any of the listed software. (I purchased my N95 from the U.S. and updated it with the last firmware.) I didn't try to delete my previous application btw.
I've not personally downloaded new maps using Map Loader for a while as I already had the ones I needed.
With regards to the new version - not sure what is currently on the site. I was told that the new version wasn't yet publicly available (hence the note in the news story). I/Steve will try and find out / find out release time table.
With the N95 and E90 there will need to be specific versions as it is replacing an application in the ROM. It looks like there is an N95 version on smart2go.com which may well be an updated on what's in the ROM of the N95.
The main stuff I've noted is a speed increase (e.g. on zooming in and out) and the simplified searching / UI mentioned above (e.g. mapping style, data/bandwith indicators etc.). The menu layout has been simplified (e.g. unified search). There's some real nice tweaks in here - more of a finished feeling.
were did you guys find the N95 version? i cant find it on smart2go.com
the n95 isnt listed there!
i tried to download the n93i version but during the install ill get "updating failed" message and the installation process was shut down...
Interestingly, the N73 version didn't like the E61i here.....
With MapLoader missing as well, it's clear that the Smart2Go site is in a state of flux. I suggest we give them a few days to sort things out!!
Steve
same here: no success with the n73 version on an e61. Had to re-install the old beta version.
They took it away again.
- the N95 version both on smart2go and nokia.com are gone
- maploader 1.1 is gone ('coming soon'😉
Wonder why. Hope, it is for a technical reason, fear it is just marketing s*it 😞
yup yup... why it goes missing just after a day???
Apparently, they discovered a glitch in the license manager section, it's being fixed as we speak and I'm sure the various versions will be up there very soon. Patience!!
Steve
is it there yet? The smart2go website is showing this version in the download area:
File: NOKIA_Maps_1_0_S60_30.SIS
File size: 3.95 MB
is that right?
You can download Nokia Maploader v 1.1 from the Nokia website here
at nokia . com / A4353385
Sebas
Is available

Nokia Map Loader 1.1 now is available again:
http://www.nokia.com/A4353385
and yes it looks like its back on Smart2Go too.
As for the N95 it is preinstalled I would only use a version for the N95 for that device. For all other S60 3rd devices which do not have it preinstalled it should be fine.
