Thanks to Ares for pointing out that the Sony Ericsson P990i has had a major new firmware update (available on the Sony Ericsson Update Service). 'R6D23' has many bug fixes and improvements, positively affecting the camera, free RAM and OS speed. Maybe the P990i has finally reached its potential?

This firmware is better than R5, new opera, proper image thumbnails, improved autofocus, good alarm volume
However, RAM management seems to be the same, or worse, and some stupid bugs have appeared, like the space bar bug
To make things worse, SE is supposedly to stop making anymore development with P990 (and W950/M600) firmwares...wtf??? I love my p990, its quite stable now, but its still an unfinished product, and we all payed for more support, there is alot yet to change

It's not often that Ares and i agree on much but this time i am 100% in agreement in what he says and urge anyone with a UIQ3 device to join him and the others on the SE Dev's site at the link above and make yourself heard.

The P990 is almost 1 year old, it's near to be EOLed by the P1. What would you expect, they will update the firmware for years? No phone manufacturer does this. IMHO the P990 has reached its potential what the 64MB RAM chip can provide. They won't find magically 10MB more RAM to be freed. Looks like both platforms reached an approximate max. from a 64MB chip, S60: ~19-20MB, UIQ: ~18-19MB. The solution will be the 128MB RAM phones like the P1, W960, E90.
You clearly dont know what you are talking about...RAM values during operation on p990 are not those. Also, the fact is SE introduced NEW bugs on this "last" firmware so we are entitled to demand its correction. Then there are simple things like giving users a proper today screen (for gods sake, nokia gave now a2dp to n73 via fw, a OLDER device than the p990). Finally the fact his the p1 is on the exact same platform of the older phones, so to keep developing for all those phones should not be an issue. Even ajack is furious with SE about this
