Lost Index file from the System\Mail folder

I have a Nokia N72, and quite foolishly I backed up all my SMSes by copying the E:\System\Mail folder on my PC. Yesterday, my MMC was corrupted and all of my SMSes were lost. When I re-copied the Mail folder to the MMC, I realized that I needed an Index file without which the phone won't see any of my messages (even though they're present in the numerous sub-folders).

I'll be thoroughly grateful if someone can help me in getting my messages back.

I have never seen or heard of any tools that could recreate/rebuild just a lost index file for messages.

If you don't have a backup to restore (made by the "Memory" app on the phone, or PC Suite), then I suspect they're gone for ever as proper messages.
