Lifeblog - Free, Indispensable and Reviewed!

Earning a well deserved AAS MegaApp award is Nokia's free Lifeblog, re-reviewed in 2007 in the light of the price point(!), potential integration with the likes of Vox and Flickr, and compatibility with powerful devices like the N95. Here's Ewan's review of LifeBlog 2.5.

Read on in the full article.

Great review, thanks. I think it's a smart piece of software too :icon14:

There's a bit of an important caveat that needs mentioning with regards to the LifeBlog client on the phone (at least the version on the N95). When you delete an item it deletes the actual item - it's not a link and there's no warning. :icon4:

Fortunately the first time I did it was only a few un-needed SMS messages but I was taken by surprise when I then went into the SMS application to remove them there also, I found they had gone. 😮

That does seem a bit odd Taomyn, there ought to be a warning if it's going to permanently delete something from another application.

Mind you, I bet if it didn't delete the item from the other apps there would be people complaining that they had to delete everything twice. 😉

What I'd be interested to read about is the difference between Lifeblog which is built-in and third party applications such as Shozu. I've just got my girlfriend to get a N73 and one of her goals would be to be able to update her blogspot blog and upload pictures to her blog or Flickr from her phone. So what would be best for her?

Clearly, having to use a PC software for that defeats the whole point of such applications and with the proprietary and fragile pop-port and cable, plugging your phone to your PC is a real hassle anyway. So I guess Shozu would be the way to go (I suppose I'll have to steal her phone for a few hours and experiment with various applications before I can advise her on what to use).

The software looks good, but unfortunately it does not work with Eseries phones...

I was disappointed to find LifeBlog did not support my E61i, especially since my phone includes a fairly nice 2 MP camera.

Anyone know of a hack to get Lifeblog to work on the E61i?

Should be mentionned it doesn't exist for the E-series 😞
(Don't understand why ?!?)

Have you tried using the N80 version of lifeblog on your phone?

Please try it and let us know whether it works or not, because I'm interested to see if this trick works for anything other than the E70.

Tom

Great. At last a reason to use Lifeblog. Whilst I use Shozu on my N95 to get pics up to Flickr (and these are displayed in a small flickr window in my blog), I can now make proper picture posts to my Wordpress blog, something that I couldn't previously do with Lifeblog and it's hand in hand tieup with Vox and Typepad. Thanks for the links Ewan.

tomsky, I tried the N80 version on my E70 with fw 3.x

The app installs, but then nothing.
(as opposed to the other version (N70?) that doesn't install).

When I try to launch it, it doesn't start nor complains with a message error.

Any other hint/trick ?

That's an old (2006 !) blog lol

As mentionned, app installs (gives a warning "not supported phone blabla"😉 but then doesn't even launch 😞

What "installed" app ?!? Didn't get your question ...

:'(

its free only for n-series and probably for e-series too

but we hav to buy it for other fones (like my older fone 3250 and my new 5700)

It's not "free" on the E-series, it doesn't exist ! 😞

There's no reason for it not to work with E series phones. It's still S60, after all. It seems Nokia just want to impose restrictions on their different lines of phones.

I'd love to go back to the N-series for features like Lifeblog but until they release a QWERTY N-series phone I can't see it happening!

Agreed.

Hope they'll support the iPhone soon.
That will end all that E-series vs N-series nonsense.

😛
