That's what I thought! It's like the Bruce Wayne of mobile phones. Looks classy but mild-mannered on the outside, on the inside it's rather sophisticated and packed with gadgets.

The 3110 Classic is the same for Series 40, it looks plain and minimalist but has advanced things like A2DP support and the very latest version of the Series 40 interface.

It just came out sim-free in Finland (that's how we got this review copy!), so I would guess it would come out in the UK sim-free fairly soon. As for the networks, not sure on that one, it varies from network to network.

If you have ever wanted to try going sim-free however, the 6120 might be the phone to do it with. It's launching for only �200 including VAT, which is less than half the price of an N95 but with most of the N95's functionality. Sim-free phones are guaranteed to have none of their functions crippled (the N95 had its VOIP blocked on some UK networks), and you can update sim-free firmware far more quickly as you don't have to wait for the network to issue a new customised firmware version.

Sim-free means it's also much easier to sell on ebay, so you can get a lot of that money back when you eventually decide to get something new. A friend just sold a used sim-free 5500 on ebay for �80, about half of what they paid for it last year, so in effect the sim-free 5500 only cost them about �80 in total. If a phone is locked, it's a lot harder to find bidders.

The 6120 will be available from the 3rd July on 3. It's going to be available on the �15 and �20 tariff deals too 😊

Where's the edit key?

Now that's a light smartphone! I don't even dare to compare it with my beast.

Does the Active Standby screen have the plugin options of the ESeries phones?

There is no edit (pencil) key. The hash key performs the functions instead (works juts as well).

No I don't believe the 6120 has the same active stand by plug-ins as Eseries. Its like the other Nokia Mobile Phones (i.e. closer to Nseries).

The edit (pencil) key has been merged with the # key on all new S60 models.

I know it sounds odd, but when you actually use it it's fine. It makes you realise having a separate edit key was pretty pointless.

It's a very good mono speaker! 😉

To be honest, I've never heard decent stereo speakers on a phone, you never get the sense of stereo that you get on proper separate speakers because built-in speakers can never be far enough apart. And phone speakers in general can't do bass properly, so everything sounds tinny. IMHO if you want sound quality on a phone, headphones or separate speakers are really the only options.

Wifi would have made the phone bulkier and pricier, which would have spoiled the main selling points of a cheap and small model.

There's already loads of wifi-equipped S60 models out there, the 6120 is aimed at less technical people who probably wouldn't ever use it.

The main reason why S60 phones are expensive nowadays isn't the computing side, it's all the extras like 5mp cameras and stuff like that. It's nice that there's a model without all those extras for people who just want a smartphone.
