Debranding from Orange?

it makes sense to debrand, you will gain the following:-
*it may speed up the phone
*allows v11 software via nss and further updates if you use a euro generic product code(see other forums)
*gets rid of the terrible orange branding
*gives you the voip facility orange deem is no good to you

Dont do it you use Orange's Line 2 functionality.... otherwise go for it. It does make it faster.

I bought the N95 on Orange 3 weeks ago and I�ve had nothing but problems constant crashing, hanging and restarts by its self whilst on a call, Orange replaced my hand set but still same! I read up on the forum about de-branding the phone, and when I did debrand it worked faster, better and not ones has it crashed or restarted! Go for it! 😊

does this void any insurance on the phone tho you rekon? as its not physical changing.

By the way, would I loose things like orange internet? I pay the £5 PM for free evening weekend you see

Tell me then, how would one go about doing this debrading shizzle? Talk me through it! I aint gona do it using my own intuition because that'l only lead to people crying and broken phones and me doing something stupid like buy a sony erricsson!!!!

Download and install NSS, change the phones product code to one listed in the sticky thread at the top of this forum, then use Nokia's Software Updater.

Depends who you talk to in this forum!

Potentially changing the product code with NSS voids both your warranty. I don't know about the insurance. I guess if you drop the handset and it breaks, or it gets stolen then you are still insured cos the insurance company never knows you modified the handset. However, if you brick it during flashing or hand it in for a minor repair (after the warranty expires) then engineers may find out the product code changed and inform the insurance company.

Personally, I think both your warranty and insurance are safe because there's very little chance the Nokia engineer will even look at the code inside the handset's memory.

You would lose the settings for connections and packet data but they are easily re-configured either with the Settings Wizard in the phone, or by downloading the Operator Settings from the Nokia website.

1. Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
2. Open Nemesis Service Suite and click �Scan for new device� on the right-upper part of the window
3. Click on the icon �Phone info�
4. Click on �Scan�
5. Change the product code to the one you want from the list below.
6. Mark the case �Enable�.
7. Press �Write�, and your phone�s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don�t worry, the product code changed !).
8. Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
9. Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!
10. That�s it! When you restart your phone, it should now be upgraded!
