Laptop internet access via bluetooth / phone?

9 replies · 5,370 views · Started 03 July 2007

I have an IBM Thinkpad T60 laptop, and an N93. When I'm traveling, I'd like to be able to let the laptop use the N93's internet connection (via bluetooth), so I can access mail on my laptop. I've searched this forum and the internet in general looking for a guide on how to accomplish this, but I can't find anything. Any pointers?

Thanks in advance.

Download and install PC Suite from the Nokia site, install it on your lappy, then there is a wizard in there.

Easy peasy 😊

I tried that, but I can't get it to work.

My N93 is connected to the laptop via bluetooth. It says so when I mouseover the PC suite icon in the bottom left corner of the laptop screen.

I right-click that icon, and select "Connect to internet". A "One touch access" window opens, but it contains a message (among other things), that says "There are no Nokia modems installed. Please make sure you have installed Nokia Connectivity Cable driver software".

What? Cable? I don't want the use the cable, I want to use the existing bluetooth connection!

There is also a "settings" button in this window. I click it, and get another window asking me to select a modem. However, there are no modems in the list for me to select. There's also a message below the empty modem list saying that if my modem isn't visible, then I should make sure I have installed it properly. Could that be what's wrong? If so, how do I correct it? Reinstall PC suite?

Maybe is not a good help, but only to said almost the same. Use the phone connection with the USB cable and PCSuite is easy. By Bluetooth, I never was able to do that.

I'd be very dissapointed if this wasn't possible to do via bluetooth. That's the thing about bluetooth - you don't need the cables anymore. But if I can't do this with bluetooth, then I'd still need to carry the cable around in my backpack.

Hasn't anybody been able to do with with bluetooth?

hi

i had faced the same problem using N70.
i solved it by installing a bluetooth modem driver.
you can do the same and be happy~😊

download the attachment-->unzip the file-->then install the driver to your notebook.

now your pc suite will show up a new modem in the commection windows -->settings tab. You should select this modem when you are using bluetooth to access the net.

Ah, thanks. I was able to find the corresponding file for N93 on nokia.com. But how do I install this .inf file? If I double-click on it, it just opens the file in notepad. I tried removing the .inf -> notepad file type association, but that didn't work. I tried right-clicking on the file and selecting "install" from the popup-menu, but that doesn't produce any response what so ever. Any ideas?

you can do dat from add hardware option.
ControlPannel-->addHardware-->(yes,i hav added the device)-->(add a new device)-->(select advanced option)-->(modems)-->(check dont detect my modem)-->(Hav disk)-->(select the location of the .inf file)-->finish off clicking next.

If that solve the problem, very well. But that kind of software should not be installed when we do the first connection between PCSuite and the new phone? All drivers and Bluetooth profiles, should not be installed right away?

I did that, and I got a message about that driver not being certified or somesuch (which doesn't bother me). So far so good. But even after rebooting, the bluetooth modem still doesn't show up in the list of available modems in the One touch access application.
