N95 No Caller ID

Hi,
When some one calls their number does not show on the phone, this is quite comon, but most people seem to have found a cure:

I have NO contacts on the Sim card or in the Phone, so no duplicates.

I have the latest software already according to the Nokia updater.

I have also performed a HARD reset (by holding green ,3 and * keys while restarting) so now have NO content at all on the phone.

The phone number DOES show when someone sends me a text.

VERY frustrating on a brand new device, I really hope someone can help and stop me going to the dark side and buying a WM6 device, which apparently give no trouble whatsoever 😊

What do you see when someone phones you? Is it just the calling window with only the word 'Call' in it?

Yes, just a window with 'call', then (no number) in the calls list.

I'll be really happy even if its something stupid I'm doing or a simple setting, as long as I get it working 😊

Tried the sim in another phone and the numbers pop up OK.

I'm at a loss here. I was going to suggest it's a network thing but trying the sim in another phone rules that out.

I'm grasping here but the only other thing I can think of at the moment is that by some massive coincidence all the people who've phoned you haven't been sending their caller ID.

My wife doesn't hate me phoning her back enough to hide her number (I hope)!

Progressing things a little, I looked more closely at updates and found my phone had 100018 when 100026 is available! Its apparently not available if you have an ORANGE product code when using Nokia Updater though??:con?

I used Nemisis Service Suite and de-branded the phone changing the product code to a UK generic nokia one. Presto I was allowed to update the software using 'Nokia Updater'.

Called it and the numbers appeared. :icon14: Just copying back all my numbers from outlook now, I'll let you know if it still works shortly......

Its amazing how stressed out these problems make you, if it was 300 washing machine I would have had a Zanussi engineer in front of me next day to punch out, but a phone and your on your own (except for you guys).

Still working, but Still a problem:

When the phone rings the number is shown, but the contact name does not 😡

Tried a couple of different numbers that are definately in the contacts.

Please help, my head hurts. . . . . .

Cannot get to the bottom of this, still not showing the names only numbers on receiving a call. :con?

Just a quick thing, have you tried speaking to Orange, maybe your Caller Display is switched off, if that's possible.

😡 😡 😡 Flipin heck, I waited ages for the N95 & today it arrived, yes I have the same problem no names showing when I get a call from friends.

I am on the 'o2' network so it is not very likely to be a network thing being as it is happening on different network's.

I have also used the Nokia Updater through my pc & it shows I have the latest Firmware, where we go from here I just dont know.

Tried my sim in an old phone and the names and numbers show.

With my wifes sim in the N95 the contacts still do not show, so must be the N95 itself.

(From another thread) I also added a new contact using the N95 and called that number, it still did not show the name.

That eliminates the idea that the problem is from the imported outlook contacts.

Thanks and keep the ideas coming, I know I'm not alone with this one...
😊

Don't quite know how the same thread has been split in two separate threads but any how, Jorge999 has solved the mystery, simply copy your contacts to the 'Sim Directory' & all will be fine.

Aha!

Put the number in the SIM and the name shows when dialling.:icon14:
Delete the number from the phone and it shows dialling and recieving.:icon14:

But, have the number in both and it only shows when dialling :icon13:

..as I use this as a business phone I need the 400+ contacts to update from outlook which will only sync them in the phone memory.

Nokia should know how to get this basic stuff right on a flagship model, I just want it to work like every other phone I ever owned.

Thanks for the help so far, still a little bit to go though.

I've got it working, numbers and names show when dialling and calling with NO names in the SIM memory.

Any duplicate numbers mess it up. many of my contacts, eg: in our Swindon office, share a common number for the switchboard and have individual mobiles also in their contact details. Take away the common number and it works.

My wifes number was in there under her name, but also as a contact number for our house alarm, take one away and it works.

These will all be put back in when I sync with outlook again though.

I have never been so disappointed with something in my life, even the old Nokia bricks work with these same numbers with no issues. crap.

Is this just me that gets this problem?

That's strange, it should only if the number calling or being called is duplicated in the phone that won't resolve to a name. Not if the contact shares a different number with another contact.
