The Fring blog has announced, in a low key way, that its VoIP and chat freeware is now compatible with the Sony Ericsson P990i (but not the W950 or M600). You'll need the latest P990 firmware, but I'm sure you have that already?
Read on in the full article.
Actually it also works on the R5 firmware 😉
Hey this is absolutely great news and I will for sure check this out over the weekend! GREAT!
--Tim 😊
So I followed the steps, downloaded the firmware update... installed the software, plugged in the USB dock and updated the handset firmware. This wasn't too bad, other than my losing contacts, sms etc. Annoying but not critical.
Then I did the Fring thing, supplied my details and got the SMS to download.
And downloaded the other piece of software required, bluetooth 2 phone, so I got that one.
Then try and install and I get...
Security Information
Component failed security check
Cannot install.
All this = frustration, a lot of effort and a lot of frustration. Hoping for a solution soon, ticketed Fring... we'll see.
When I updated the firmware, the date / time was reset to a period before the certificate was issues. Changing this date/time to todays date resolved the issue. The software installed and is working ... w00t 😃
I followed the instructions, then tried to run the program and it comes up with"Application couldn't be started". How annoying!

This sh** don't work main.. My P990i is at the latest firmware.
Application could'nt start.... Frustrating.. Even re-updated firmware.. Same problem..
Fringing P**ed off..
Using firmware R7A001 on Sony Ericsson P990i. Installed Fring software successfully, it won't run. Instead it gives an error "Application couldn't be started" I am not currently connected to a hot spot, so maybe that's why? I thought the app would at least open, even if it couldn't make calls. Will try again when at a hotspot.
