Mere hours after I plead in the AAS video podcast with Nokia to release the v12 firmware for the Nokia N95, it appears! On Nokia Software Update now, v12.0.013. Changelist to come below in a mo'

Read on in the full article.

for some cosmic reason, i decided to run NSU today and found to my surprise that v12 was available. it's a slooooww download though, been 45 mins and only 40mb downloaded. so to pass the time, i decided to check out what's new on AAS and found your post.... CRRREEEEEEPPPYYYY!!!!

I concur with "unregistered"... <whistles 'Twilight Zone' music>

My beloved N95 hung today for no apparent reason. It came back with a hard reset but I was pondering whether to do a complete restore and set up all my apps again or whether I should wait for v12 firmware. Spookeeee.....

As in the previous firmware update, it again does not show up in the NSU. BTW, I have the latest software of NSU.

Bought my N95 a few weeks ago and immediately updated it to the latest v11 firmware.
Just checked NSU a few minutes ago and it's still listing V11 as the latest firmware, nothing about there being a newer firmware out.
And I bought my N95 at the Nokia Flagship store in Chicago, and it's definitely unbranded/unlocked.

I forgot the include that the new firmware does not show up in the NSU in the U.S.

Initial observations: restore of my data went ok, usual apps needing installing etc. Around 19MB of RAM free after booting, so perhaps a tiny bit more than v11. Maps includes Assisted GPS, I think, based on an extra connection dialog that popped up on the first startup... and based on the fact THAT I'VE NOW GOT A FULL LOCK, IN UNDER A MINUTE, SITTING AT MY DESK, 6 FEET FROM A WINDOW!! Impressive. It's still the old version of Maps (Smart2Go), but at least the GPS side works far better now.

If it improves GPS behavior, is not bad at all... Alone it deserves the upgrade!

NSU says my phone is already up to date 😞 no im not in the US.
does it have sth to do with that i bought my phone through extending contract from O2 ?
i really would like to have aGPS 😞

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the new firmware require product code 0527009 or some other generic Euro firmware?

Same here, v11 is shown as the latest version on NSU for my generic UK Nokia N95.

More observations, slightly slower to boot up, phone hangs for a about 10 seconds if you press menu too quickly after bootup

21mb of ram at startup with both HandyTaskman and BestProfiles installed and running so slightly more ram at startup (had 19.9mb on V11 firmware)

The blue/white Nokia basic theme has been removed......b*****ds, that was my favourite.

Now, when you are in HSDPA there is a icon 3.5G instead of 3G... (there was before??)

You also asked for more RAM, and you got it.

I still have 6+ MB free after loading a quite large WEB site (www.politiken.dk), a Danish news paper with lot's of pictures.

I managed to unbrand my 3 branded phone, install the Scandinavian version and re-install the 3 mobile TV app.

Appears to run smoooth

Michael

I imagine this is going to be like v11 for those of us who have unbranded US phones. It took 2-3 weeks after UK release before it showed up in NSU for me.

Still says V11 is latetst & haven't found a changelog.

fingers crossed

you have to change your product code.
at least it works with euro1 code

What is the Product Code for the N95 that can be updated to version 12?

How can you change your product code? And does it void guaranty?

Works with Scandinavia too (product code).

Yes, you will void your waranty if you do change the product code - and there are NO way back to a lower level of firmware if you decide you need service, so it's a gamble.

Michael

Update happened ok, restored the data from memory card, had to reinstall google mail, google maps, mobile gmaps, shozu.
Best improvements are in gallery, much faster and in GPS signal lock much quicker.

To change the Product Code for N95, read this blog:
thenokiablog.com/2007/04/03/nokia-n95-euro-product-codes-and-language-packs

You need to install the NSS or Nemesis Service Suite to change the product code.
This blog also lists all the available product codes to choose from.

If you want to check the current firmware for your N95 or any Nokia phone, go to this page: and enter your product and it will tell you the latest available version for your phone. You do not need to connect your phone to the PC and run the NSU.
This is way easier and more convenient!!!

And to the first person on this comments page "Unregistered" who said for some "cosmic reason":
whats the product code on your N95 that had the version 12 update???

here is the page to check your current software version before you connect to NSU: (just put the http before the europe)

Hi - the Irish (or UK) Nokia sites dont provide a download option for updated firmware.

Is it ok for me to go to the Nokia USA site and download from there, or would there be some peculiar screw up of settings that I would need here???

Thanks

Product Code 0537611 works like a charm. Anyway, there are two big improvements here. Assisted GPS, and a faster UI. With AGPS, I got a "lock" on my location from inside where no satellite was available. The menus are also very quick. Opera Mini loads up and runs very quickly and smoothly (no more waiting for dialog boxes to pop up). This seems like the firmware N95 should have been released with. All the reviews complaining about sluggishness are now out-of-date as a result of this firmware. Caveat, though. If you upgraded Nokia Maps, you'll need to do so again, since the firmware has the "old" application installed.

i'm from melbourne, aust. started off with a '3' network branded phone, but flashed it straight after i got it with #0534835: Australia

Can anyone confirm if the Assisted GPS work with the updated maps software if you update it again? I'm very pleased with the update so far. I had the updated maps software on v11 and i purchased a 3-year Western Europe license and now i get GPS-lock in about 30secs so it's a nice improvement but I liked the UI on the new maps better so I'd like to know if i get the A-GPS benefits with that version too?
