Before i update the lastest firmware, could somebody please tell me how i back up certain areas of the phone
I have urls stored in the podcast app and in the browser,
I dont want to manually enter these in
does anyone know the location of the files?
I've tried browsing the file system when plugged into my PC but i cant find anything
how do i get my PC to display all the drives and folders?

If you do a phone to memory card back-up then your urls will be saved on this. If you want to be supersafe then copy and paste them into 'Notes' with the pen button and save it on your pc.
Using PC suite, it doesn't give me the option in BACKUP
it only has options to back up

To be sure, first thing I would do is update your PC Suite to the latest version.
I can 100% guarantee and confirm that if you do a complete backup, of all options, the feeds and bookmarks etc. including podcast URL's will be saved and restored.
I know this, as I have just done the exact same thing when updating to latest firmware. The backup saved and restored the above just fine.
You don't need pc suite- you can back up by going to menu- tools- memory- options- backup phone memory. I did this yesterday before updating and the chances of a full memory restore are better than using pc suite

ok i've updated firmware and then i restored backup from mem card
was i supposed to do that?
I know your not supposed to from PC suite but not sure from the mem card
You should be ok restoring from both, unless you changed product code before flashing.
