Firmware advice

Just a quick quick question for you lot. I have a Orange branded device, which means Orange firmware. Now i dont mind the phone as is, however i am running version 10 firmware, which i have heard V12 is out for Nokia. Now if i use the Nokia firmware what settings am i likley to have to put back in to the phone?

With T-Mobile I found my access points and message center remained but I lost my voicemail number. Make a note of these or check if orange can easily send you the settings again (probably possible through their website)

I've got Orange, and havent had to put any settings back in.

I backed up my phone using PC Suite, changed to EURO1 Plum code, updated the F/W, restored my phone from the backup and it's all working perfectly. I've read a couple of comments on here not to restore from backup, but I've personally not had any problems, apart from having to reinstall a couple of apps such as Gmail.

Just one word of advice, if you have Line 2 functionality on Orange it will NOT work on V11 or V12.

i dont have line 2 functionality or anything i just have the base phone. I dont know if i should bother to upgrade tbh, as the phone is working fine as it is, on V10 firmware, the only thing i dont like is the fact that the camera is a bit slow... but i can live with it.

Only other thing i cant understand is that i have a applicaion, but it will not install, because it says its unassigned. If i upgrade the firmware to the nokia firmware would this overcome this problem?

unassigned? you probably misread un signed. unsigned software doesnt work on N95.

Settings can easily be resored using Nokia website OR settings wizard on the phone

Your connection settings will automatically be restored (MMS, Internet, GPRS). Your Voicemail number will be lost from the SpeedDial#1 so write the number down before flashing.

One setting you will need to re-enter manually is the Packet Data setting (in Tools -> Connections menu. The value to enter is ORANGEINTERNET

You will lose all contacts, calendar, notes, favourites, etc. but you can Synchronise with PC Suite before and after the update.

You will also lose any Apps which were installed to the Internal Phone memory. Most apps installed in a MicroSD memory card will re-install themselves, but all JAVA apps will not work properly and will need re-installed.

I recommend you do NOT use the PC Suite Backup option or the Memory Card Backup tool as they can cause problems when restored after a FW upgrade

Your biggest problem is that Orange may not have approved V11 or V12 FW so you may need to change the product code to Euro-1 using the NSS program then re-run NSU before V12 FW is available to you.

NO! 😉 It's definitly worth it. Basically Sync your Contacts etc using PC Suite then go for the FW upgrade using NSU.

If NSU says there's no updates available, then use NSS to set the product code to Euro-1 (0536062)
