What WiFi gear are you using? How well does it work with the N95?

With my N95's ability to stay locked on to a WiFi signal still lamentable after upgrading to v12 firmware, I was wondering if this is random between different handsets, or if different routers and/or Wireless Access Points gave different results. I have a Linksys WAP54G at work and an Addon ADSL wireless router at home. Both give very poor results, with the connection dropping every couple of minutes. I've used some of the workarounds described here, but they give mixed results and some drain the battery in two hours.

So, what WiFi equipment are you using and how well does the N95 work with it?

I'm using a Linksys WRT54GX. Had some random problems connecting to it when I was on firmware 11.x. Error msg saying something like "Invalid Pre Shared Key" although I was 100% sure the key entered was correct. Only way to resolv it was by restarting the WLAN router or wait som 20-24 hours (!!). This happend every now and then and I could not see any pattern.
Thoose times when I could connect without error msg the connection stayed strong and stable (no problems with disconnection).

Since firmware upgrade to 12.x I haven't had any problems connecting (...so far, it's only been 3-4 days since I've flashed). So now everything works as expected 😊

I'm using WPA/WPA2 with AES.

Hi all,

I have BT Voyager Modem/ Router that has now worked with a N93, E61 and now N95 on each device once i have connected and added the WEP key once i have never had a single problem connecting or a drop out. I have never had to change any settings on the Router or my devices either it just works as it should.

I use a Belkini 54G adsl modem/router, works fine with N80 and N95 of all firmware versions using WPA.

Dogmann - I'd bin your WEP system and use WPA, WEP is too easily cracked these days

I did have a Linksys WAP54G and did experience a number of lost connections to my laptop,so I replaced it.

I now use a Cisco 1131AG access point, which feature both802.11a & g radios. This access point has never caused trouble and is far more flexible (and expensive) than the consumer versions.

One huge advantage for my laptop is the 5ghz/802.11a band, where I have NO competition from neighbourgh networks.

The N95 obviously uses the g band, but with no problems.
You can still use WEP with no fear,as long as you combine it with TKIP.

Michael

Im using a US robotics ADSL router (9110) with WPA protection and it works fine, in fact, i was so glad I had the n95 to firstly download pcsuite to install on a pc with no wireless internet, and then to download the setup for a USB wireless receiver to get the pc up and running with internet. Worked a real treat.

I'd rather restrict MAC address only than using WEP/WPA2.

The lost connections never happened again after that change.

BT Voyager 2091 here with 128-bit hex key WEP.

Works well with N95 and N80. Although it sometimes can't be 'seen' on the first connection attempt it's otherwise pretty solid.

I'm using an ancient Cable N Wireless ADSLR10CW3 that I picked up on ebay for a tenner!

And, it's working a treat. I've been using it over a week now with no dropped connections at all. My phone is on O2 branded v11 firmware.

I use a Linksys WAG354G with WPA with TKIP and I also restrict MAC address access.

With v11 firmware it was dissconnecting all the time, even when trying a few things on this forum, it would just say "Disconnected". Now with v12 it's been fine so far.

Many thanks everybody for your input. I make that positive marks for BT Voyager, Belkin, D-Link, US Robotics, and Cisco, with some doubt over three different types of Linksys, which is interesting in itself.

Just to completely confound me, today my connection to the Linksys WAP54G has been pretty solid, with only one dropout. I wonder if the phone's WiFi "beds-in" over a period, in a similar way to an adsl connection...

No problems with my Airport Express or my Airport N wi-fi routers with either my N95 or N80 (all firmwares). Been using a friend's Belkin wireless G router for the past two weeks with no problems either. All routers are using WPA2.
