Anyone else getting a lot of hiss through headphones attached to the 3.5mm socket? My Shure E500s are almost unuseable (admittedly, they are super sensitive), but the hiss is there with any headphones I try. I was hoping my new N95 might replace my iAudio X5, but this hiss makes that very unlikely. I guess it's probably a hardware design issue, but I'd be interested to know if other people are experiencing the same thing? Cheers.
Headphone hiss...
I get the hiss as well. Had it on the 11 firmware, still have it on the new 12 firmware.
I use an ultimate ears set myself.
I get the same here. As such, my n95 is useless as a mp3 device for me as i listen to a lot of classical music, much of wich gets lost in the 'hiss'
I have a question, do you guys have keytones activated?
I've read that the hiss comes from having tones when you press keys.
I don't have any hiss even with my E5C.
Just an idea...
Good luck!
key tones are turned off here
Hi all,
Well I have key pad tones on level 2 and don't know if that is what you mean by keystrokes but am i also using a pair of Shure EC2g headphones plugged directly into the 3.5m jack. The sound i am getting is nothing short of stunning no hiss feedback or anything untoward at all.
Out of interest how have you all converted the Music you are trying to listen to as that is the only other variable i can think of. All of my Music has been converted via the Nokia Music Manager @160kbps AAC maybe try that and see if it makes a difference. But to be honest even Kill Bill 2 that i originally converted for my N93 still sounds really good as well.

No keytones here. While playing the actual file there isn't a hiss, only when moving around in menus and the like while not playing anything back. Sometimes i'll hear it when playing a file and pressing the keys.
Hmmmm.... i have the hiss, albeit on the softer sounding tracks. Overall it's something i can live with, after all the N95 is not going to replace my Zen Vision:M if i'm really anal. I've adjusted my EQ settings and am using my Sennheiser CX300's.
All of my music is converted at 192kbps......... i guess the higher the conversion the more likely the hiss will be there....
Yes, I definately have hiss here, overall quality is totally unacceptable, especially after hearing an N91 (easily better than an ipod).
I actually get a better signal to noise ratio over Bluetooth Headphones (Sony DR-BT20NX), but it is so intermittant it just becomes annoying. I even notice slight variations in pitch when listening over bluetooth!!😡
Well, I've found something that makes the N95 music experience a whole lot more bearable. My Shure E500 earphones came with a level attenuator that connects in-line, in between the Nokia headphone connector (the one with the music/phone controls & built-in mic), and my earphones. I've put the N95 music volume output at 100%, and I'm controling the volume with the wheel on the Shure level attenuator. Result = no hiss!
With a few tweaks of the equaliser on the N95 (the pattern is now pretty much a "U" shape), I've just done an A/B with my iAudio X5L & it now compares really quite well, especially considering I'm using FLAC on my X5L & VBR 192 LAME on the N95. I usually avoid equalisers like the plague, but the N95 really benefits from a high & low boost, at least with my E500s.
It's not perfect, but I'm finding myself enjoying the music, rather than concentrating on a lack of sonic quality (as a headphone nerd, I do that a lot!). Also, being a noob to mp3 phones, I just got my first call whilst listening to some tunes...the music pausing, allowing me to answer the phone with the little Nokia widget on the cable, and using my E500s to hear the caller...was pretty cool 😎

I have to agree here, I came to the N95 from an N91 and it is a big dissapointment in the sound department.
