It's good to see that your activation problem is now fixed with a reflashing from NSU again. But, "no restore at all" from a previous firmware backup is what pa49 advised. And in fact, I did the restore with the "settings" box unchecked, and still encountered the activation problem as I described from my earlier post.
pa49 advised to only use the PC Suite sync (e.g. from Outlook) and not the restore at all.
But, if you had not previously sync your Contacts, Calendar, etc to your PC PIM (e.g. Outlook), then you may not be able to sync back to the phone. In this case, I would suggest you try to first backup your new virgin firmware to PC first (so that you can recover later if necessary, without having to redownload and reflash again). And then use a very limited restore ... definitely unchecking the "settings" and also the "user files from the Gallery" boxes. As per my previous post, it's the restoring "user files from the Gallery" that did the damage to the "In My Heart.dcf" file.
Good luck, and please report back.
pa49 wrote:Why would you want to copy gallery files? Aren't they on your mem card?
I think I was naive to expect that "user gallery files" are the picture files, etc that I created. Also, I saw that the sis and SRDEMO files are not on the memory card.
I now suspect that the Nokia files (including the "In My Heart.dcf" and possibly the SRDEMO files too) will come back from the new firmware reflash. And then I can always reinstall the sis files from the original sources on the PC anyway.
So, good lesson here, never to restore "gallery files" as well as "settings" from previous firmware backups.
I did exactly as you advised, i.e. restored everything apart from "settings" and "gallery files" ... and this song still plays 😊 .
Unfortunatelly some other songs which had been downloaded in the past (in the previous firmware) and had lost their keys as well, after I did the update to the new firmware, can't probably be restored, as they are not a part of firmware.
Thanks for your hints :icon14:
(I see there are experts on this forum, but they are hidden sometimes 😊 )
But what about my application which I had installed on my SD-card?
They are still not restored?
If your mem card applications didn't automatically reinstall when the phone detected the insertion of the mem card, then you will have to reinstall them from the original source files.
I don't really know the solution about the problems with your other .dcf songs. If they don't come back with the new firmware, then it's unlikely that you can use a restored copy from previous backup (as you've found out ... and confirmed with the "In My Heart.dcf"😉. The only other way is to source the activation keys (from where I don't know), or the original song files themselves. It is evident that the problems are all to do with the copyright protection mechanisms built into these files. Presumably you don't have any problem of playing other mp3 or mp4 files?

No, I don't. This problem concerns only *.dcf files.
Probably when I downloaded them in the past, I got a license connected somehow with the previous firmware and they don't want to work on the current one.
Anyway, thanks for your help again.
Don't install any app to mem card. Your looking for trouble and you just recovered for one prob!
I don't really understand what problems you mean.
I know there is a topic regarding it, but I haven't got familiar with it yet.
I install my application on SD-card when they reference to this card for any database (like TomTom, dictionaries, and so on), as they need an SD-card to work anyway.

Not true, check out the poll about "where do you store your apps". I have always kept all my apps (with the exception of 'always running' type ones) on the memory card, dating right back to my first symbian phone, never had one problem with doing so.

Not going to go over this again except that there is no logical technical reason to not install all apps to phone! There is to not install to mem card!
Anyway, if you get problems we are all here to help.
Hi pa49, not wanting to hijack this thread, could you please advise the link to the thread where this topic (better to install apps to phone or the memory card) is discussed? (I've tried to search, but couldn't find it.)
Thanks.
