I got my N95 off eBay on Thursday and so far, I'm quite happy with it. I do have a few issues though.
1) Updating the phone through the Nokia Software Updater doesn't work at all. I have the T-Mobile N95 and my version is 11.0.026 which might be the latest available but the software doesn't even recognise my phone. I have set the phone to PC Suite mode and the PC Suite software recognises it fine but the NSU just says it can't find a connected phone.
2) Searching for other Bluetooth devices doesn't work either. Other devices can find and connect to mine fine but when I search for them, it just says it cannot find any devices when there are a number of devices with Bluetooth enabled in the area. When another device connects to mine, the process goes through fine but its just mine searching for others thats the problem.
Any ideas on fixes? A firmware update (if available) might fix number 2 but if number 1 isn't working, I can't do either.
Try to reinstall NSU or make sure you have the latest version straight from the Nokia site.
When it finds your phone it sounds like you may need to reinstall V11 as you never know what the phone has been through by the previous owner.
Or you can d/l NSS and change product code to Euro 1 and get the V12 drivers from NSU.
I've got version 1.3.85 of NSU which I got directly from the Nokia site. I've also tried reinstalling NSU and PC Suite with no luck. The phone was new but I saw the owner had been using the bluetooth a bit as it showed his phone in the recent devices. I was thinking of using NSS to change the product code but I read that it voids any warranty and as NSU can't even find my phone, theres no need to change the code right now. Any more ideas?

Is your warranty not voided already as its classed as second hand?
Try a full hard reset on your phone to get rid of any troublesome files:-
Here are a couple of codes to soft/hard reset/format a Nokia N95 mobile device:
Soft reset code *#7370#
Hard reset code *#7780#
If the hard format code mentioned aboive does not work, try the following manual method to hard reset/format Nokia N95:
*Turn off the mobile device. Then press and hold 3″, the Green button and * - Turn on and keep holding the keys untill the mobile phone restarts and prompts you to enter details.
I know its a bit of a silly question but is there another way to fix it without hard resetting the phone. I have spent time transferring things and personalizing the phone and don't want to have to redo it.
I've just tried the bluetooth again and it managed to pickup my brother's phone. I have no idea why its working now but at least it is. Now just the NSU problem to go...

You can and should do a backup of personal stuff first, with PCSuite.

As the user is planning to Upgrade his Firmware with NSU, he should NOT backup using PC Suite, as restore after FW Flash usually causes problems.
PC Suite Synchronisation is ok though. 😉
Uninstall the phone drivers and reinstall, with a restart of your PC inbetween!
Okay then, I'll do a sync then re-install the drivers. Hopefully, it will work this time.
EDIT: If I do get it working, is it worth updating to V12? I don't know if the Nokia Warranty still covers me (as I bought off eBay but its new) and is there a chance of the phone dying if I update?

I believe your codes are reversed. The hard reset is *#7370#

A couple of years back I had a phone repaired by Nokia Service Center that was second hand, I took the phone in to be repaired and was told when they checked imei that phone was still under warranty and would be repaired free of charge. Dunno wether this still applies but just because its second hand doesnt mean its warranty is void
The NSU can fail if your usb cable is plugged in to a hub; if it is, try plugging directly in to your computer.
NSU wouldn't work for me at one point. After a long tough search of the Nokia dev forums (You're not the only person it doesn't work for) I discovered the solution to my problem was the cable driver from PCSuite. I uninstalled the version of pcsuite I had and the nsu. I even cleaned all the Nokia entries from my registry, just to make sure. Then a kind chap from the Nokia forums gave me a link to 'Nokia_PC_Suite_682_rel_22_0_eng_us_web.msi' It's just an older version of pcsuite. Everything has worked perfectly since then. Google it, it might be worth a try.

It IS still under warranty
I bought mine from ebay as well and it was someone's contract phone with TMobile.
I had the some problem so I took it to Nokia Service Centre and they checked the warranty and repaired some problems
As they couldn't fully fix the phone I sent the phone directly to Nokia Freepost and they repaired it for me
All in all this phone has 2 years warranty in total and is only few months old. If you goto nokia service centre ask them when your warranty expiring

WRONG! The hard reset is the 3 keys at power up, 7370 is a format of internal memory 😉
Hi all,
Not sure what different people's definitions of certain codes are but from as long as i have known them they have been,
*#7370# is Full factory reset wipes everything on the phone or
*#7780# which is restore factory setting but leaves personal data intact.
I have never used the holding the buttons down as this trick is only needed if the code can't be entered.
Marc
*#7370# and holding down + 3 GREEN do the same thing - reformats the phone memory back to as if the phone is brand new.
*#7780# as you say restores the factory setting but leaves personal data intact.
