Steve Litchfield pits the spanking new Sony Ericsson P1i against its main competitors from the Symbian world, the messaging-focussed Nokia E61i and the media-focussed Nokia N95. How does Sony Ericsson's latest measure up? Find out in the grand P1i, N95, E61i head-to-head!
Read on in the full article.
Good. The article did not make regret that I purchased the n95 instead of waiting for the the P1 😊
Steve, if you had to choose between these 3 and if price was not an issue, what would you go for?
Nice review Steve, but out of interest sake what is the max size Memory Stick Micro card that will work in the P1? The P990 did have the advantage of Memory Stick Pro Duo support,so an 8GB would work in it.Also which keyboard do you prefer for everyday situations, the P1 or E61i...
Answers:
M2 is up to 4GB at the moment. I'm sure 8GB would work in the P1i though.
Keyboards? I found the E61i and P1i's to be fairly similar in terms of speed, to be honest.
Choosing between the 3? Very tough decision. I prefer S60 3rd Edition to UIQ 3, so that would eliminate the P1i, but that's being a bit unfair, I'm applying a platform preference etc. Your call!!!
Steve
For people who associate in pictures and like to scribble down things, there's obviously no choice. S60 is out.
I think it depends on what you want to do.
The Nokia N95 is consumer powerhouse (GPS, great multimedia), but poor for enterprise users (at least out of the box). The E61i is a great enteprise devices, but the multimedia features are more average.
The P1i falls somewhere between these two (while perhaps not matching either in their own sphere, but its a better consumer / multimedia device than the E61i and a better enterprise device than the N95). As such it may appeal to those who are looking for something of both.
My short opinion: N95 is for multimedia geeks, E91 is for businessmen, while tries P1i cater to both.
P1 as enterprise device? It's crippled by SE, no profiles, no call recording, no 802.11g WiFi, no quadband GSM. It's a p.o.s.
Who the hell needs profiles? When do you use them anyway? And call recording? That's just weird for you to do that... plus the silent button is just a fingertip away to make up for "profiles". I agree the exclusion of 850mhz is dumb, but SE was smart to leave out 802.11g... it certainly would take up more battery, and considering the N95's... SE owns it.
