In which I explore the current Nokia Nseries Download! application/service in gory detail... everything you ever wanted to know about which bits are worth downloading and which err... aren't. Download! is demonstrated on the Nokia N95, but most applications are just as applicable to other recent Nseries smartphones.

Read on in the full article.

The search application in downloads is different, it includes the 'in-device search' missing
from the version that ships with the N95. you can reinstall over the top but if you uninstall and reinstall you save a bit of memory as it only install the plugins for your locality.

NokiaXpess print works fine, but make sure you have WiFi, ordered prints from my N95 and they arrived in two days, superb quality fujifilm paper, your first order of up to 10 6"x4" prints is free.

Nice article Steve!

By the way, it's not just Nseries or Eseries, the more recent numbered S60 models (6120, 6110, 5700, 6290 etc) have Download! services too.

krisse,I see that you are a big fan of the numbered S60 models, with good reason also,(its really sad that they are underrated) as they combine so much of the functionality of the high-end N-Series at a much more manageable price.

"I'd guess that this will be brought into the Nseries world shortly, so perhaps wait for this if you really, desperately want your messages and callers read out."

I don't think it'll read text messages, but I already have caller's names read out to me by my N73...

Steve,

you mention Speech2Go mis-pronouncing your wife's name (I suppose she is called Fiona?) - as one of the developers of Speech2Go Reader, I tried reproducing this, but did not have much luck.

Could you confirm the spelling for me, and let me know where you heard this - e.g. the body of a text message, or the name of an incoming caller?

Just guessing wildly, could it be that your wife's entry in the phone book has been highlighted by inserting spaces between the letters?

Cheers.

ciao marcus

No, it's entered correctly as "Fiona". I'd love to try it again, but the ridiculously short trial period is now over. If you want to get in touch privately with a 30 day license code...
