So here I am debating on if I should go with the iPhone or the N95. I am all about Nokia's line of products. I have used them for about 6 years now...I have the Nokia 6800, then moved to the 6682. Before that I had some generic Nokia that did not matter as I was too young...
I have loved my 6682 and I just started to get into using it to be honest. Symbian is something I have never used thoroughly before...
I am selling my iPod Nano and keeping my shuffle to help with the price of the N95. I also was considering the iPhone. For reasons I am about to explain I am not going to be buying it...
I am going out of the US for about 6 months to a year. I need a phone that is capable of being used on Euro and Asia networks. The N95, to my knowledge, is Quad band and usable there while the iPhone is locked here (plus a shitty camera and I want a good one for the trip)
I have no access to a N95 here and would have to buy it and try it before I can get my hands on it...
How is the battery life? I hear it is not great...are there 3rd party batteries for it that extend its life?
Is it easy to switch from a US GSM to a Euro/Asia network if needed or will a US GSM work in Euro/Asia with this phone? How is the internet browsing and usage?
Is Symbian easy to use for multimedia such as movies and playing MP4? (My 6682 says it plays MP4 but I can not get them to play for the life of me and 3GP quality is horrid)
I just wanted a little info before I drop 650 bucks on a phone =/ Then again it is replacing my camera and my ipod...
Any info would be great =D I am running on a cingular network so if anyone with the N95 on a cingular network could mention anything that would be great.
Thanks!

iphone n95
checkout the videos with the two lads in it (guy on left black shirt, guy on left white shirt)
I'm sure that'll make your mind up
what made my mind up is the iphone is NOT capable of sending/receiving MMS!!
Not being able to send an MMS is a huge hit for the iPhone...So I can't take a picture of where ever I am and send it to my parents =/ Lame...
Battery life is the next issue with the N95 though =/ iPhone is 8 nhours N95 is like 3?
8 Hours what? talk time?
Anyways, if something goes bad with your iphone battery, you have no choice but to send it away as its all a sealed unit.
The N95 of course, can easily swap batteries. So you could take a spare.
theres lots of reasons not to go for the iphone.
Basically, if you want function you go for the N95. If you want to overspend and get something pretty with a touch interface, get an iphone.
I must say opinions here are going to be biased, since its a symbian forum 😉
i don't care if you don't care, but here is a list of what i dislike in my actual phone.

battery too little. this phone should be stressed for 24 hours in a day and still have 1 battery bar when we go bed.

Slow! every smartphone out there is SLOW. i'd like a phone that when i open the camera, it can make photo instantly.

not enough RAM. this causes problems if i want to leave open some application together.
by the way, it's pretty much of what i love in a phone.
I hope the next generation (n96? n95i??) had implemented this feature i'd like.
I was also considering the N80ie as it is a good phone as well. The camera is not as powerful as the N95 but it is still a good camera and it is half the price...
I wish I could get my hands on an n95 and an N80ie to test out how they are =/
N80ie? Do you mean this: http://www.pdasnews.com/articles/1967/1/
I have a 6110 navigator, which I like better than the N95 :P
*sits back awaiting flames*
The N80 is a great phone, but if you want it to replace your digital camera you will be disappointed. No comparation with the N95's. The N80 screen is awesome though. Both can play videos, either MP4 or XviD.
^^ Yeah...the biggest things for me are:
Good camera
Good Music Player
Full internet capabilities
GPS
Battery Life
I know the N95 hits on all of those points EXCEPT, of course, battery life. I figure I will be on the go so having a music player will be nice as well as a camera in my pocket. I am hoping that either a third party will come out with an extended battery or that nokia will unveil something in the next few months that may hold me over to wait for it...
Too bad the iPhone is not a world phone...and cant MMS and a crap camera...
For me it's an easy choice, it's N95, there is no one beside or above. Have had many many phones, mostly Symbian based (SE and Nokia) and some 'ordinary' (Samsung, SE, Motorola) and on occation Windows based (..will not happen again unless they change it dramatically...).
There is no one that can compete with N95 in any aspect (apart from battery life then of course. But to be honest I don't think it's that bad either. It actually improves over time). And for the tech.specs there is no one coming even close.
Iphone? Why? Apart from the appealing design (I'll give that :icon14: ) I can't se any reason to buy this. Seriously, most phones on the market had the tech.specs that this phone has several years ago... (..but then again, this is a Symbian forum. I'm not hanging around because I dislike Symbian phones in general... 😉
if price is an issue .. it has many n95 features without the price tag.
If its available in your market take a look.😊
Or better yet, the 6110 navigator. Its almost identical except it had GPS. The 2 things its missing in your list is good camera (its a decent one, but only 2MP), and wifi. Although it does have 3G (actually 3.5G where it exists).
3G does not exist here in the states for the most part. The US is slow as hell to adopt it which to me is stupid...WiFi is kind of a must so that I can walk into most book stores and cafes and access at high speeds.
Price is not too much of an issue. I have been saving some extra cash on the side to spend on a new tech device to use as my new mobile media. I work 65-70 hours a week so I wanted something to be able to check emails, entertain myself, browse the internet in between jobs...
I was considering a Mac Power Book Pro but that is not as practical as a pocket device...that is another story...
The 6110 looks cool but the missing WiFi and camera shy me away from it.
I was considering the iPhone but it can not do some of the things I live by on my 6682. It is kind of sad that the iPhone stands next to 2-3 year old tech...heh
What kind of battery life do most of you guys experience on the N95?
Talk time, movies, music, camera, video, internet, 3G, WiFi, general use...
Any numbers?
I think that if you want wifi and a good camera, its the N95 regardless of battery. You can always carry spares, and having a car charger is a good way of keeping it topped up.
I've almost never run my battery down.
I have a proclipusa mount in the car for the long-haul trips where my N95 is my navigation device, a charger at work and a charger at home that both my N800 and N95 use. No problems here.
The N95 is my main RSS newsreader (Headline), podcast client, and internet radio device (when it's plugged in for internet radio). Before that it was my N80i. Matter of fact, I've used a Symbian series device as my main podcast client since Nokia released the podcast software and it's near-perfect.
I've sat at the pool and used the N95 to read news both online and offline and listen to podcasts for hours and still have 50% of the battery life left when I get home.
Battery life for me on the N95 is good.
iphone is very good 😃 bleah

the best mobile phone is n95 not limited iphone!!!
For thoose of you still considering buying an iPhone. This one sums it up pretty well..:

thanks for the reply's guys! I am hopefully going to pick up the N95 next month. I usually have a 2-3 year life span on phones and I think this one will be my next. I am going to do some more research on it as far as symbian software goes and how I can utilize it.
I suppose this will be the first phone I will be needing a car charger for haha
If your intending to use the GPS you would need one anyway
GPS running on any phone will only make it last a matter of hours if not plugged in.
here it to hoping they make an extended battery =D
