If you just back up your phone memory to a memory card before updating does that work OK? On the FAQ on the Nokia Website it says that for N series phones you should back up the phone memory and memory card to your PC using PC suite and then format the memory card?
Software update question
I simply just backed my contacts etc. to my memory card and everything was there after I restored it..I guess it doesnt matter where you back it up to, its always good the had a second backup to with your PC Suite, I mean, its not gonna cost you anything or much time even..
Yeah just updated now after just backing up to the memory card and all fine.
You shouldn't restore an entire backup to a phone with new firmware as this can cause problems. Move all your gallery stuff to the memory card and copy contacts over to it as well. Update the phone, then copy them back.
