Set to return my N95 for the second time!

I only purchased my N95 1 week ago and I have already had to replace it the next day and now the same error message is back. I am storngly considering returuning the N95 for good and cancelling the contract, here is why:

On the day I got he N95 when I got home after playing about with it for a while an error message appeared saying "Insert SIM card." This was odd since the SIM card was already inserted, inded had been set up by the asistant in the shop (T-Mobile). The phone would not work, so I needed o re-start, which I did and shortly the same error rmessage appeared, so I took it straight back to the shop and they just said it was becase the SIM card was not put into the phone in the right order to begin with and the N95 is sophisticated so it can cause problems if not done correclty first time. So the asistant took out the SIM and re-inserted it and all seemed fine.

The bext day the "Insert SIM card" error comes back, so I return the phone and this time they replace the handset and say the SIM is OK becuase they tested it in another phone.

Today, 5 days later the "Insert SIM card" message has returned, although this time it was preceeded by another error message saying "Sim card registration failed."

So it probably was the SIM card, or is this a general error that sometimes effects the N95?

I will be returning the handset tomorrow, I am undecided at this point if I want a 3rd one, any advice would be welcome.

The network I got the handset from is T-Mobile in the UK.

Sounds like theres a problem with the connectors to the sim card. Have you got another phone to try it with? That way you could eliminate the sim card if it works.

Either way, they have to fix the problem.

Yes they do have to fix it. However the assistant in the shop tried the SIM in another phone and said it was fine, but when I suggested they replace it they said they could not.

It must be a SIM problem or could it be a general N95 flaw? Afterall this is a different phone, same error.

Just my luck. I may yet cancel or ask for a new deal with T-Mobile.

hi,i had this exact same problem.sorry, never found a way to sort out the problem.its a pain having 'insert sim' appearing all the time but i just put up with it.it did seem to become less frequent, especially after a firmware update.in saying that not long after firmaware update my n95 died the morning after an overnight charge,it wouldnt even power on and i had the pleasure of 3 weeks with no phone before nokia decided to send me a new handset.hope you can get a new n95 mate because mine was never right..regards.simon

ps.sorry should of said..was also on tmobile and its def not the sim as its never had the error since inserted into my new n95..

I had this happen with an ancient D2 Mannesman (Germany) SIM chip I have that I got back in the.....uh, back in the.....early 90s?
You guys do know there are different makes/models of SIM chips, right?
They may look the same, but some are very different and very old and well-worn chips sometimes just won't work right in the latest phones.
Or the chip itself could be an el cheapo/defective one.
Go to your provider and tell them you want a new chip with the same number.

I have the exact same problem: "SIM card registration failed" followed shortly by "Insert SIM card". This is a brand new never-used N95 from 3. I will phone customer services and see what they have to say.
