Cant use internet over bluetooth ?

Hi, I just got a N95 and installed pc suite, so that I can connect to my N95 over bluetooth and use its hsdpa to connect to the internet. It worked the first time, but the second time i get a message : Failed to connect to network ! Modem may be used by other application or the modem may not be configured properly. So then i tried a wired connection, it worked but the only the first time and now it also gets the same message. Ive tried everything no apps running, restarting, reformating and hard reseting. But no prevail. So does anyone have a solution ? Thanks in advance.

I faced a similar problem, and knew why. In fact for a reason I don't know, when pairing the device using Bluetooth or connecting using USB cable, it was registered in device drivers more than once, representing different modem devices for Windows. Their names are like this:

Standard Modem over Bluetooth link
Standard Modem over Bluetooth link #2
Standard Modem over Bluetooth link #3
Standard Modem over Bluetooth link #4

It's repeated with me until #4. It may be more. The same happens with USB connection. I don't know the reason of that. Any way, when connecting my device next times, if the connection to the network fails, I choose one of the repeated instances in the One Touch Access Wizard. They are all included in a drop-down list. Try instances according to the type of connection you use, and define access point if it's used for the first time. One of them will work.

Generally, After two or three times, it's fixed to one of the instances.

I wish it may solve your problem.

Nope that didnt work either, but by the way, which bluetoot stack are you using in windows ?

Edit : Ive found the problem, it was the toshiba bluetooth stack now im using the original microsoft stack that comes with windows, and as for when running wired its windows assigns a new usb connection for every usb port the first time you connect the N95 to a new USB port. So you just have to sellect the correct connection number for repective port. So all is working well now.

Thanks to the above poster for his help, without his insight I would not have gotten the idea to try another bluetooth stack.

I had the same error after upgrading the firmware on the phone and I am using the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack. In Control Panel, Phone and Modem Options I uninstalled the Nokia Bluetooth Modem and then unpaired and re-paired the phone in PC Suite Connection Manager. That re-installed the Bluetooth Modem drivers (as recommended by PC Suite Help) and sorted the problem. No need to change Bluetooth stack from Toshiba to Microsoft.

Since the Toshiba bluetooth stack is better (multiple file sending) its worth a try. But in your case did this solve the problem permanently ?

I have just tried connecting to the Internet over bluetooth again and the error has come back :con? . So will have to investigate a bit more. This looks like a problem with the Toshiba stack (I have the latest, v5) and PC Suite. Could revert back to Microsoft like you did.

I'm on using Vista and on the PC Suite connect to the internet tool I now get no modems listed when the phone is connected via Bluetooth (ie the dropdown list is empty). Used to work fine with XP so I guess it's just another Vista issue I'll have to wait to be solved...

...unless anyone has a better idea.

I have found a workaround. The problem seems to be with the COM port (82) that PC Suite installs the bluetooth modem on. So remembering an old method suggested by Nokia in the past I used the Toshiba Bluetooth Manager to pair the phone and install it as a standard 33 kb/s modem on COM 40. Then in Control Panel, Phone and Modem Options I added a new modem using the Nokia N95 bluetooth driver installed as part of PC Suite and selecting COM 40 (now available to select after installing the standard modem). I set it up as a dial up connection in Network Connections and now it works every time.
I have not yet worked out how to get the Connect to the Internet application in PC suite to see it but it is not much hassle just to launch it from the Start Menu instead. You might need to add a extra dial string for your operator as well

There is a drawback to the above listed method, I have tried it but it limits the connection speed which means you cant use full hsdpa. So it seems the best way to pair is till ths MS bluetooth stack.

I use Microsoft Bluetooth, and it works well. But in terms of speed, it's bad. Alternatively USB connection is better, and you can get most of the 3G speed (I don't have HSDPA). I always use it if I won't move or carry the phone frequently.

I did some speed tests on speedtest.net and I was getting up to 700 kb/s download (Orange). Seems like HSDPA to me!

Try pairing the phone using the MS bluetooth manager and get it to install it as a standard modem. Then add a new modem using the Nokia Bluetooth modem driver and specify the same COM port as the standard modem. Finally create a new dial-up connection in Network Connections so you don't have to use PC Suite. Basically similar to what I described above with the Toshiba Bluetooth stack.

Use the USB cable, it's faster. Also ensure that your PC USB is USB 2, I think it may affect data transfer between the device and the PC.
