Maximum expandable memory size...128mb?????

I have discovered in a post in this forum that the maximum expandable memory size is 128mb (plus internal memory). Surely this cant be correct, is it not the size of the memory stick which will determine the memory size?? I cant believe that they would restrict its expandable capability in this way.

I am in process of sending back my SPV, and am eagerly awaiting the SE P800. Can anyone confirm that this is correct, or is it as I think, that it all depends on the size of the stick??

I have just completed a search on this subject and come to the conclusion that this maybe the case. If anyone has any difinitive info on this, I would greatly appreciate it........

Maximum size Memorystick duo can provide is 128Mb. 128Mb sticks aren't available yet (I've heard they will be out in March 2003). AFAIK the largest stick available ATM is Magic Gate Duo 64Mb, which is somewhat more expensive than "ordinary" Duo, but I've heard it's possible to use it in P800. You could of course buy several memory sticks, and switch between them 😊

What's difference between a normal MemoryStick Duo and MagicGate MemoryStick Duo?

One post I read said that the firmware of the P800 will only allow a mx of 128. OK, so it may be a while before larger capacity sticks are available, but are they going to work in the P800???

Encryption is the diference. But if you format the MG-MS-Duo in a P800 it will logically be equivalent to a non MG.
To use it again in a (Sony) product that requires DRM (Digital Rights Managment) MS-Duo cards you will have to reformat it again there.
Not sure if it will be possible to *partition* the MG-MS-Duo in 2 areas, one with encryption for storing ATRAC music files for the MP3 player and another without encription for storing files in the P800.
But, even if this partitioning is possible I think that the P800 would not see the encrypted partition so drag-drop of files betwen them is probably also KO.

So does the encryption on the Magicgate Memorystick Duo prevent saving MP3 files. Also when are the regular Duo Memorysticks due to be released?
