I got this email from SE today. Looks like if you dont like the flashing indicator light that's Ericsson's trademark you'd better not buy the P800. It's a shame, I was really looking forward to getting one of these, but I wont be bothering now.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson.
Regarding your enquiry concerning the indicator light, yes the P800 has this
feature and there is no option to turn the light off.
Please contact us again if we can be of further assistance and visit our
website at http://www.sonyericsson.com for more information and support on
our products.
Best regards

what the hell......you are not considering buying it because of the blinking light.....are you some kind of vampire......come on the P800 is a great phone and you can't go wrong with it......and the lights should not affect you buying it.......
I love the lights! I really think that they make the phone more alive and btw the blue light is so cool 😊
There's an excellent solution for that!!
one of the wonders of DUCT TAPE usages!!!
😃
OR: send it to me and you won't see the flashing light anymore, (and the P800 if that matters!! 😃)
The craziest kindda reason for not buying a great phone!!! Nonsense......tell any of my friends they must be thinking u r nuts!!!
why would i want to buy something and then ruin it by sticking a bit of duct tape over it or using a back marker on the light? How aboutr SE have an option to turn it off, that sounds like the best solution to me.
A friend of mine was told to get rid of his t68i if he wanted to leave his phone out in view during meetings as everyone found it distracting. He's got a 7210 now.
If you're gonna spend 300 on a phone and sign up for a service for a year you dont want the damn thing driving you crazy like some sort of techno chinese water torture.
That's why I'm not buying a P800.
Yup, back to the circus with you 😃
Well Andre, most of us turn our cells of during meetings...
Just for the issue, does the light (who infact is indicating connection) stop flashing in flight mode?
I'm considering a P800 myself by the way

Yep it does 😊
Well, that might be the solution to Andre's meeting problem then...
I think he is being difficult...thats all.......attention seeking..........put the phone in yr pocket of u dun wanna see the light!........
Oh.......and its ok if he dun wanna buy it cos there is a long waiting list and pre-orders so i believe those waiting out there would be glad that some nuts are not gonna buy the phone........minus one of the list!!!
I love the blinking lights!!! Makes it feel like an airplane, which I like!!!
No blinking lights----BORING!!!
Oh, I don't understand why the blinking light is an issue... Then I have to tell my CEO to turn off his handphone when he is giving his briefing....!
For family, friends and whoever cannot accept the blinking lights... it is non of my concern since I paid for the handset not them.... So "der".....
For me, when the phone is on power save I can tell if the phone is still on from the blinking lights.
You never know what could turn your p800 off
He really must be kidding! 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃
Greeeen light! 😃 😃 😃
So funny: lol: 😃 😃 😃 😃
Cant Stop!!! 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃
😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃
Well... there could be two possible reasons for not wanting the blinking lights.
First one: the medical reason, which should not be joked around with. I actually know a guy who got an epileptic seisure from the bluetooth indicator on a t68i (when connecting, it blinks rather "violent"😉.
Second one: Cultural reason, which equally should not be joked about. I mean think of it, in some countries you should not show your palms to people because that is considered very rude. Who knows, maybe it's rude to have some gadget or equivalent that make a lot of noise or a lot of light 😊
Just my thoughts 😊
i still think that he is a freak....or maybe a vampire that can't look at flashing lights....
Well considering some people are getting so wound up about me not liking flashing lights on my phone I say there'd be some debate that this might be a case of the pot calling the kettle black. I dont NEED a P800, I'll just wait until something else comes out that doesn't irritate me like the flashing LED.
I don't like the flashing lights, I need to keep my phone i view during meeting incase I recieve an important phone call. If it's on the desk then I can see if it's important or not, if it's in my pocket then I have to get it out which is more distracting to who ever is talking.
Some people dont like mobile phones being too intrusive, why should I have to cover up part of my mobile phone because it distracts me? If you can't handle that then maybe you should consider spending the money you were going to spend on a P800 on an anger management course! Stop being so angry, not everyone will like the P800!
I can only think of this as a joke, but if you are serious about this subject --by all means, I hope you're not --the flashing green light on the P800 is so narrow you won't even easily notice it in complete darkness, unless of course you prefer to stare at it at all times. 😉
Yepp!
And if you really want to cover it, it is so easy!
Take a look at the phone and you understand.
Not a big thing 😃
what's the point in buying something if you're not 100% happy with it? Haven't yo ever brought a pair of shoes or a t-shirt you were'nt sure about. Then about 6 months later you see them/it and you think 'I shouldn't have brought that, I knew i didn't really like it at the time'.
That's how i feel about the P800, I dont wanna buy it and feel a week or two later that I made a mistake cos the I knew i wouldn't get on with the flashing LED. I dont want to cover it up either. I'll just wait for a P800 type device with out the flashing light. If the p800 does well Nokia are bound to have something in the pipeline similar. I'd rather wait for something perfect(ish).
That's my two cents worth.
Well it's all about tastes!! (i said that alot in this site 😃) that's what makes the business world go round. And if you don't like flashing LEDs, that's your taste!! but i think you should reconsider, or if you still don't like it, there's some pocket pc phones out there (although i think you should get symbian for the support of this community 😉 ) but with an I paq 5600 series there's the green light, and blue one for bluetooth! (dunno about turning them off though)
But what IF there are apps to trun the LED off in the P800? Hell! My samsung (dunno what number it is :-?) can have the light turned off! And it ain't new!
So hopefully you can fix it, it's a nice phone, the P800.
But i say it again and again, it's all about what YOU want! and your taste!! 😉
Why don't you just write a little bit of software yourself that controls the LED's. If you don't like the flashing make them shine all the time 😃 (or not)

That's good thinking, too, being careful with your investment, specially in the tech market. Just make sure you don't spend too much attention with the details and miss the bigger picture. 😉
i agree.....DO NOT over look the bigger picture...
i actually think the LEDs are good
espically at night when i am trying to find where my phone is!
