I totally understand what he means. It could be distracting if ur sitting in pitch dark.
Im assuming you work in the day time with a room which has lights and/or a window.I tested it, its not like ur in a night club..
I also admire phunqe's point of view. Some cultures are different in some aspects. But then again, this phone is not blinking so much its an eye sore.
But yah, why buy something ur not satisfied with. Depends from person to person.
well the thing is that, i believe that people nowadays are fussy about stuff. well yeah i agree not to buy things that do not totally satisfy but it is a blinking light for crying out loud. so for example if you were given a P800 FOR free, you would say "no thanks because i think that the blinking lights are too distracting for me"???? or if you were given a Ferrari and reject it because it only had a 3 cd player instead of 6?????? this is nut you know......you should not look at a thing because of only it's little details but look the the things that really do matter. open your eyes, because you are missing out on some good stuff....
This post was all about avoiding the disapointment that comes when you buy something you've waited for only to find out it's not appropriate. I dont care about size (something that would put of a lot of people) and i dont care too much about the cost. Unfortunatly for me I cant stand the flashing lights and I'm not alone.
I'm not gonna buy something I'm not happy with. After all, due to its nature, you're gonna spend a lot of time looking at a p800. The P800 was never my 'perfect' phone but then nothings perfect and you have to make compromises. i can compromise on size and price for the benefits a p800 has but i cant live with all that flashing.
SE could have quite easily added a feature to turn the light on or off then everyone would have been happy. If anyone figures a way round the flashing service LED make sure to post it here.
Well, it's a free market. I, for one, love the flashing lights. Ericsson always had them... I'm disappointed that the T300 doesn't have it.
I was so happy when I found out that the P800 still had the dual-light setup of the T68!
I was even more pleased to see how well it was integrated into the design of the phone...very subtle and sleek..very Ericsson.
I was examining my P800 and I find it so amusing to see both Sony and Ericsson elements so distinct:
Ericsson's traits:
-flashing lights
-tri-band
-Bluetooth
-Symbian
-universal accessory connector
-Li-Pol battery
-GPRS
-great battery life (for a device that only has 100mAh, and works as a PDA)
-touchscreen concept
-Communicam concept
-sleek curved lines
Sony's traits:
-touchscreen (the actual component)
-memstick Duo
-Jog-Dial (I love this thing)
-proprietary headset jack (it wouldn't be a Sony without one)
-polyphonic capabilities
-speakerphone (although Ericsson had one before...I feel that the actual speaker is now from Sony)
-dedicated power switch
-keypad design (this is NOT a plus for Sony) and layout
-Communicam CCD
-Li-Pol battery manufacturing
-square shape design
-lower defect ratio (I have to hand it to Sony for this... even though some people have had real hardware defects, the ratio is MUCH LOWER than Ericsson's track record.)
Oh, I forgot one major thing Sony contributed:
-blue & white color combination (this is either a good or bad thing depending on whether you like it or not)
bollox, i was wondering about this. oh well thanks for answering my question, i think i'll still get one though.
U r crazy mate, i used to own Moto T720 n it was off by default. i turn it on... u see tis lite is useful if u r in the dark... says in a jungle which i usually are once a year in my ARMY Re-Servist Training...
U see... in the woods out of contact with the outside world n makin hot choco under the stars somehow u starts thinkin of u'r folks at home n wonder whether they'll call u n u starts to worry about the reception of the signal coverage in tis remote part of the world... u reach over ur phone n the green blinkin lite tells u u r with range... wat a relief... back to enjoy ur hot choco...
I think he is being difficult...thats all.......attention seeking..........put the phone in yr pocket of u dun wanna see the light!........
And at the same time wear 'light weight' trousers - hey you could impress the girls with that especially if near ya 'naughty bits'
it's quite simple , if you don't like the light , get rid of it.
the p800 is fairly simple to open (if you can find the screws behind the camera cover).
and from the inside tape it.
there's no warranty seal , so problem solved , next problem!

:agrue: I think it's helpful when the sorrounding is dark! it helps u see locate where it's @. Bsides, the light is so weak the moths won't even bother looking at it!

Well, the green light is not so bright no, but the Blue BT light is so bright it lights up my whole room at night (a little irritating, gives a cool effect though!)
Actually, a few ppl around me complained about the flashing lights for T68i, my former phone, I think they are crazy till I went to sleep later at night and the flashing light is right in my face so I just unplug it off the docking station and all is fine. Its not the problem with the flashing light, its the problem with how people deal with things. What if you decided to get a Nokia phone and darn, 2 weeks later you still regret it and wonders why didn't you get that P800 before? Smart choice eh? Then you can't really blame the phone, when the problem is actually yourself, I supposed some people just can't go beyond minor things that are of no concern if looked from other perceptions.
My two cents, just like yours. 😊
I agree, the thing is your problem and not SE or anyone elses, and if you blame people for calling you a freak then that too is your problem and honesty to me, I think that your argument is truly stupid!!!

1. Get over it. So you don't like it. La-dee-da.
2. This forum is probably the last place you'll hear about a new Sony Ericsson phone without the trademark blinking lights. My advice? Don't hang around here - park your browser over @ www.sonyericsson.com - you'll hear about an SE phone without the police lights there first, anyway.
What a WOMBAT.
haha, this is the first time i hear of such stories! are you professional man or what? does the light of T68i distructing? i am have meeting more than 5 perday, and wherever i used to go, All were asstonished by the T68 when it was first released. i was the only one to put my mobile on the table, all others used to hide threirs!!! and now the P800, A GREAT, more than GREAT mobile. the lights in it are designed really brilliant.
I think that those blinking lights are VERY disturbing. I have always hated them. Especially when driving around in a car at night.
Not enough irritating to not buy the phone but VERY annoying, I guess some designer thought it would be cool to have them in the late eighties.
But now its just too much.
Get over it, guys.
If you don't like the blinking lights (concentrate on this bit, now...) GO.... BUY..... A...... NOKIA.
W.O.M.B.A.T.

It's already been said... have a modder take the case apart for you (if you don't know how yourself) and either tape it or disconnect the LED(S).
The P800 is just too great of a phone to pass up on such a trival matter... take care of this and get on with enjoying all the OTHER things about the phone! IMO

I have got over it, I'm not that worried, it's everyone else who cant get over the fact I dont like the lights and am not going to buy a p800 cos of them.
This post is months old, so get over it.
LOL i was just reading through this entire thread and reading what people have said... I've been called a freak, vampire, etc all because i dont like flashing lights. You guys need to realise that I'm not having a go at any of you personally i'm just stating my opinion. You've been sucked in by brand loyalty.
Anyways i brought a Nokia just so you nutters can drone on for another 6 weeks about how much better you P800s are and how I must be some sort of head case for not buying a p800. Your comments will not be read by myself cos i wont be back, but no doubt you will enjoy this kind of mutual patting on the back.
Bye Phone nerds!

Trust me too. hahah, The P800 is the most feature packed phone to date and you really cannot go wrong with it. Just kill the lights if you feel that it is too much for ya.
The Light Flashed, The Light Didn't, The Light Fla.............
R.I.P. this thread - please!
I wonder how andre survive flights knowing that both boeing and airbus are into installing flashing lights on wings of their aircrafts 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃 😃
I wonder if he special request a middle seat! 😉 😉
A good friend of mine would never purchase an T68 or P800 because of the flashing/blinking leds. He cant sleep with the phone in his near ... he always has BT on ... but without the phone in his near, he has no alarm clock ... crazy world.
BTW, he cant work with a Monitor, running less then 100 Hz, he get a headache ... 😊
Solution to the blinking lights:
1. Use a plaster/sticky tape.
2. If this is too unsightly, try to synchronise your blinking with the light,
and hey presto, you will not see it illuminate anymore.

i am going nuts - here in Asia, people are adding all kinds of gadgets which give off lights when the phone rings and all that; now we have someone who is sensitive to flashing lights.
P800 is a great product. I sort of also like the lights.
Go for it; it won't ruin your sleep.
