From built-in to 3rd party: Adobe Reader 2.5

You probably know that every S60 smartphone comes with Adobe Reader built-in. But this is v1.5 and there's a brand new v2.5, released by the guys behind Quickoffice. In my review of Adobe Reader 2.5 I look at the story behind the application, test it on my E90 and work out who should upgrade and who shouldn't.

Read on in the full article.

I would rather buy PDF+ instead Adobe. Rendering was very fast, low RAM consumption and the option for wrapping was more than welcomed. Lucky that I don't need to read tons of pdf files, so I'll stay with the light edition.

I agree. I have been using PDF+ since a while and am quite happy with it. And it is a lot faster than the v1.5 reader that came in the phone. Although 2.5 may be faster and better than 1.5 (?), but i don't think I would want to buy one more pdf reader when PDF+ is working adequately and just fine.

Good point. In case anyone's wondering where to get Pdf+, here it is in the AAS shop. And yes, it's also highly recommended and with a long history.

The main thrust about this Adobe Reader review was looking at the point of upgrading (or not) from the free version. 8-)

PS. Remember, all, that buying software through the AAS software shop means that a few percent of the purchase price goes to Rafe, which helps keep AAS running and (indirectly) pays for more content for you to read.

pdf+ is better and faster than 2.5 adobe reader....i tried both of them...adobe sucks

I agree with your comments Steve and I tried V2.5 compared to V1.5,on my N73, and V1.5 seemed to display most files much faster and smoother. For my needs V1.5 does the job,but as mentioned above for heavy needs PDF+ might be the better option...

I like V2.5. The reflow feature for me is the most useful. It allows one to read a long and wide text with extreme ease without loss of all of the formating. I find it opens my documents quickly.

The problem is that it appears to have no method of saving your settings or for using shortcut keys, so when I open a new document I have to cycle 3 time through the menus: 1 to enter reflow mode, 2 to achieve the correct zoom level, and 3 to enter full screen view. I keep hoping I may be wrong about this lack but since there is no manual and I have tried just about every shortcut combination I can to no avail I have to conclude that there is no provision for shortcut keys nor, which would also solve my difficulty, the ability to save your settings.

All I can hope for is a V2.6 or something like that that will give me atleast one of these features.

Discovery: On my E61i if you are in a document and you push the central button you enter zoom mode: The up and down zoom in and out, a second press of the central button sets the zoom level (only for that session).

Another quibble: The only way I can find to advance in a document is line by line with the down button. This is slow and tedious and causes a series of "beeps" which will always cause heads to turn and look at you. (you could go to silent mode but this would add another set of actions before yo get to do what the program is made for; to read.
