Glad it worked for you. Thanks for posting that info, might be useful to others whom have upgrade problems.
Garmin Mobile XT for Symbian
Hobbymat wrote:Are you sure that installation of Mobile XT on N82 won't bring any problems to the phone's text input mode? The problem I have on my mind is the 'sticky # key symptom'.I've tested installing Garmin Mobile XT on many Nokia phones, and in certain models XT seems to screw up the phone's own operating system. You can only see the problem if you start entering some text (e.g. email, SMS, name, etc) and press # at least once for switching the text input mode or entering a capital letter. After that the # key up/down states are permanently switched, so you'll have to keep the # key pressed down if you want to move the cursor without selecting the text.
The models that are affected are exactly those S60 3rd edition phones that do not have the Pen key or a full qwerty keyboard. Some models that are NOT affected by a Garmin Mobile XT installation are for example N95, N95-8GB, and also E61i.
Please prove me wrong. I'd very much like to use Garmin Mobile XT on my N82, but so far I just can't afford crippling the text input capability in my phone... 😊
Hope this helps.
N95 is also affected. The '#' key works incorrectly in Nokia Maps application.

What on earth am I doing incorrectly?

Quoting myself... But actually I found the solution.
There is a suspicious application called "TSRAutostart.exe" that seems to be causing causing all the trouble. If you terminate this process, you can input text normally again -- until the process starts up again. It's a process part of Garmin Mobile XT, and so far I've found no way to prevent it from running in the first place. Removing only this file from the memory card causes other trouble.
Way to go, Garmin! Perhaps you'll learn to make decent S60 applications someday... 😡
What other trouble does it give when you remove this file?

How do you install/upgrade mobil XT when there is no SD card?
I will order on the web from my PC and choose DVD right?
Thank you
Im afraid currently Garmin say no to the 8GB version, as it doesnt have a card slot and they havent done a DVD version. It is possible to get it onto a N95 8GB, but requires the use of cracks which I wont go into (or allow) on this forum.

I have been trying Garmin XT for the past few days and so far so good, I am almost ready to sell my standalone TomTom One except for one problem. When my phone connects to the bluetooth handsfree in my car the Garmin Voice navigation does not work. I am pretty sure its a Garmin issue as the voice will work if I disconnect the bluetooth pairing.
Anyone else experience this or found a way to get the voice navigation AND bluetooth handsfree pairing to work simultaneously?. At the moment I don't like having to choose between the two so it may be the Garmin that loses out.
The phone is an N95 8GB, Garmin XT is version 4.10.80
Thanks.
Try updating it, Garmin is now on version 4.20.20 for Symbian: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-11034-00
Thanks for the reply. I looked through the update changes and didn't see anything related to voice/bluetooth conflicts, but I suppose it won't hurt to update anyway.
There was an improvement to the GPS bluetooth pairing, but I am using internal GPS so chances are that won't affect my issue.
I am guessing I am the only one experiencing this?.
I dont use headsets, so cant really comment.
Hi, I don't use a headset either, the bluetooth handsfree kit is integrated into the car stereo system, either way its a moot point as the update didn't help my situation.
Beginning to wonder if its the phone at fault now as I have also noticed other issues relating to bluetooth functionality such as not being able to view my contacts list or last number dialled etc, but thats nothing to do with Garmin so I will try a posting a new, related thread.
Thanks for all your help.
Hi guys,
I have a Nokia N78 running Garmin XT v5.
I love it when it's working, but probably... two thirds of the time I try to find directions it'll bring up a dialogue saying "Awaiting better GPS reception..." and freeze up for anywhere between 10 and 20 minutes when it'll suddenly start working.
Really confused as to why it's doing it, once it's working it's fantastic, but this kind of makes it a bit useless, shame as one of the main appeals of the N78 was using it as a SatNav for when I haven't got my TomTom with me.
Any advice would be great, thanks!
Hi guys,Id like to ask a question. Why I cant install Garmin MobileXT 5000 v40 to the memory of the phone?I can istall it only to the memory card,to be exact,it installs itself to memory card...Thanks a lot😎

The maps are all far too large to install into phone memory.
In any event, best practice is to install all apps (where possiblt) to memory card to keep as much phone memory free as possible.
I agree with you that its best practice to keep the phones memory as clean as possible, but I meant that the application should be in the phones memory and the maps should be on the memory card.Because every time I use my N95 in Mass Storage mode and I disconnect it from the computer the phone asks that "Garmin Mobile XT was found.Would you like to run it?":frown:

Most of nokia mobiles have a very weak GPS receiver(cheap stuff). My advice:get a bluetooth GPS from ebay around 20,which is faster, stronger signal, fast start, more satellites at one time etc.

I know that's annoying but it's still more important to keep phone memory usage as low as possible.
Garmin don't offer the internal memory install option, so you'l have to put up with it as is.
Installed Garmin XT on my N95 8GB last night, it works a treat.
Everytime I turn on my garmin mobile xt it uses my gprs/3g data connection. Garmin online is disabled. Anyone has this problem? A solution maybe? I'm using Nokia 5800 XM
ninolale wrote:Everytime I turn on my garmin mobile xt it uses my gprs/3g data connection. Garmin online is disabled. You have AGPS setup in the phone settings to speed up satellite lock up with GPS. That is a good thing, it is only about 4 or 5kbytes of data and with it turned off can sometimes mean it takes 20mins to get lock onto enough satellites to give you a position!
Thanks for the info. I didn't know about this. The problem is that i've been using it abroad on roaming and the phone bill is high as hell!

I agree that is quite annoying. However, I don't think it's a good enough reason to use up over 10MB of precious Phone Memory to store the app.
