What usually happens in Nokia phones is that the number appears even if you have that number assigned in one of your contacts. Let's say AMY is 1234567. Instead of AMY that appears calling, it says 1234567 calling. This only means that you have two contacts sharing the same number.
Maybe this is related to this???
thanx for ur reply but nope ... i dun have two record with the same number...
now the thing is that nokia seems to only compare the last 7 digits of the caller id and match it with the phonebook contacts.
although this kinda scenario doesnt happen very often but it does happen and it is annoying .... if u know what i mean (the phone tells u is hot chick who is calling but actually its ur boss) 😃
Well, the very same thing is true for other mobile phones too. I have Siemens S-45 and it does the same.
But, contrary to your oppinion, I would rather call it a great feature then anoying bug. Tell me just one thing. What is the possibility that your boss and some hot chick would have same last 7 numbers from phone?!
On the other side, lots of firms practice having same number for their employees both on fix-phone and GSM (with different calling number of course). So when you receive call from somebodys mobile phone, you will see his name even though you only have his fix-phone number in GSM phonebook.
Neat feature. And I hope no one would think of removing it. 😉
It's not really a bug but a trick.
And is very usefull indeed.
Eg. in Greece I have someone saved with a number like 6912345678
but the network will show +306912345678 to the phone.
Well it would be a bug the other way if it didn't give the name but the number.
I've read it somewhere else, that Nokia phones see onlt the last 6 (or 7) digits. So, if you have "AMY" with 097654321 and someone calls you from 111654321, it will show you "AMY calling"... :-?
Don't know for other phones.
I posted the similar problem some time ago however mine is more drastic
Lets say I have Amy (whats wrong with Amy around here) with the phone number ending with XXX107
Ahaaa the trick here in 107 .. at least in Kuwait that is why? Because the local GSM provider number is JUST 107 .. so when the call me or msg me I get the name of Amy on the caller ID and with the messages as well .they dont actually call that much .. so that not an issue .. but they do send lots of SMS messages .. and I always get the icon saying that Amy sent me an SMS! havent found a solution to this yet! Good luck!
Well I have a solution.
Simple and drastic, believe me.
MEMORISE THE NUMBERS (ofcourse a little bit outdated)
If I good remember, then this problem is written in manual. But I'm not sure. Imho it is bug not feature.
