Help blocked N95 :(

12 replies · 7,239 views · Started 09 October 2007

Hi just got a brand new N95 from eBay and it accepted sim and pin but I could not send or receive any calls.

Called T-Mobile today and they said it is stolen 😡

Is there anything I can do to get the phone working as I am assuming the guy is probably going to do a runner with my 200.

I was suprised as the phone was boxed and sealed and is deffinately brand new, plus he had 95% rating for nearly 100 transactions 😞

Any help would be apreciated as 200 for a door stop is not my idea of money well spent :frown:

Well how was it paid?

If it was via PayPal try putting in a claim. failing that I hope you used a credit card if so just phone them and they will get the money of paypal for you.

The phone is useless within the uk so your only other option is to kindly donate it to someone living outside of the uk.

theres nothing u can do, this is the reason i never buy frm ebay etc, id sugest killing it by flashing it with nsu and half way pull the usb out then send it to nokia, and maybe they wnt beable to fix it and send u a new 1

Unlucky, mate. I'd get on to paypal straight away if I were you. The same happened to me a year ago with an N80; but mine didn't get reported stolen until after the 45 days had passed.

Your other option is to buy an N95 with, say, a cracked screen and put a good one together from the two. I think the blocked IMEI number is held in a chip on the main board.

You can get the N95 Servcice Manual off the web by googling for:

N95_RM-159_RM-245_sm_level_1_2.pdf

Make sure you get the correct screwdriver; its a Torx 5 plus. The plus bit is important.

Get your money back. Don't make yourself a criminal. No way should you even consider how to make a stolen phone work, and neither should anyone on this forum. Imagine if someone stole YOUR phone and got help here to use it!

This case is quite clear and you should have no problem getting your money back. It may take about a month or so, but you will win a case against this seller. The sooner you file a case with PayPal, the sooner you will have your money back.

A bit of advice....

If you paid via PayPal using a Credit Card, do NOT contact PayPal.
Paypal only refund a maximum of 125 on Purchases that go wrong.

Instead, phone your Credit Card company and raise a 'chargeback'

Hope you get some justice. 😉

sing PayPal

i use paypal alot because ebay, i even paid £400 to ebuyer as their system kept declining my card 4 times. But Paypal is criminal when it comes to problems, if i didnt have to pay with paypal i wouldnt their service sucks. I recently lost £10 for some bulbs off a power seller....

i asked if they where 6500K xenon filled, he said yes but when i got them they where 4200K so i sent back same way as i got it which was 1st class.

Never heard from seller, says he didnt get it then i opened dispute(paypal) and told them i sent it back 1 st class. They emailed me week later asking me to return it with tracking....So i replied to paypal and said i already sent it but because i didnt put a tracking number the dispute was closed... paypal sucks

now back to topic

try to do a charge back (i'v never done it) and then do dispute with paypal you might get some money back too. Let us know how u get on.

Oh i lost some money on n95 time ago, well lost £20 because shitty paypal could not get it from seller.

Do NOT raise a dispute with BOTH PayPal and the Credit Card Company.

If you claim on both, PayPal will dispute your chargeback and your credit card company could throw out your claim.
You will then get between £0 and £125 from PayPal's maximum compensation on purchases.

What Dez said.
File a credit card dispute - they'll credit your balance immediately.
Ask them what they want you to do with the phone. If they say keep it, sell it abroad - with the caveat that it won't work in the UK.
The credit card co. will take the loss if he's withdrawn the cash.

Oh, and always check the neg. FB on toolhaus.org.
The only phones I buy on fleabay are old ones.
New stuff is just too pricey to risk the money on.

I can't help but think maybe this person has stolen/knowingly purchased a stolen phone and is looking for an easy way to unblock it. Hence why he hasnt responded to this thread, or the last one he did

Or maybe I just see the worst in people?

😛

I also would contact the local police from where you bought the phone, provide them with the emei number and ask them if its been reported lost/stolen.

Chances are someone would of needed to get a crime number for insurance purposes and would of provided the information to the police.

That way the person who sold you the phone is liable for handing/selling stolen goods.

your best option is to hand it into the police. it is either stolen or has been reported lost/stolen to a network provider who have then subsequently blacklisted the imei in the uk.

the person who sold it to you on ebay is a scumbag & may be guilty of handling stolen goods, insurance fraud or both.

i would also take the advice of those above with regards to getting your money back.
