Unfortunately, this is the NEW MemoryStick Pro... this is NOT compatible with the current Memory Stick, or Memory Stick Duo.
The PRO slot IS compatible with the ordinary Memstick, and Duo w/ adapter.
The current Memstick slot is NOT compatible with the Pro stick. 😞
Oh well... we'll have to wait... so far, this is what we can hope for:
Memstick Duo = 128MB
Memstick = 512MB
Memstick Pro = 1 GB
Memory stick pro 1GB is compatible only with Sony DSC-F717 digital camera.

Memstick = 512MB

Memstick 512 ?!
First time I hear about this.
Are you sure it is not MemStick-Select = 4x128MB ?
Sony has made the MS DUO and an adapter to use it on MS slots, so there is a chance they make a adapter so that you can use the MS PRO on MS adapters.
But if they do this I don't think it will be very practicale to have a MS PRO staying only half inside the P800.
Just my opinion.

Thas is funny 😃
yeah it k\looks very weird😊
You cannot make the Memory Stick PRO compatible with Memory Stick using an adapter as they use different flash formats.
Memory Stick will go up to 512MB. Currently, however, they're working on the 256MB version which is due out shortly after the release of Memory Stick DUO 128MB in March/April. It's more like a double-sided 128MB Memory Stick with a switch. The inconvenient part is that you'll have to eject it and make the hardware switch yourself everytime you wish to use the other side of it.
The 1GB Memory Stick PRO will cost somehwere around $800US upon its release! Heck with that money you can get another P800!! :P
Ok, the flash format is different, but sony did made a adapter for you to use your MS on a FDD, isn't the flash different also?
well actually the memory stick pro reacher to 4 GB
Releasing a new high-capacity MemoryStick that is not backwardly compatible with the old format is like Ford unveiling a new car that only runs on monorail tracks (which are currently under construction and will be available 'sometime in the future'😉.
Limiting the original MS to 512Mb was a massive oversight!

Sure they can make a new adapter so you can use the MS/MSPRO in whatever other device such as your computer. But the point is, there're no upgrade options available for supporting the new format in current products (that include the P800, and all cameras, for example). We'll likely have to wait for new devices that will support the new format natively.

Even if Sony could make an adapter and a software upgrade so that the memory stick pro would work on the P800, you'd still have to live with the fact that the MS-DUO is not only smaller but also thinner than the MS-PRO, so you'd have it sticking out of the device (like xpto256 said earlier).... Not very nice....
