E90 firmware note

Thanks to the people that emailed in about the new firmware 7.38.0.2 (with A-GPS) for the Nokia E90, but it seems that this might be an interim release in a few markets, it certainly doesn't appear on NSU in the UK. Also, my sources tell me that the official new firmware will be 7.40.0.2 - all intriguing, watch this space!

Read on in the full article.

Steve,

The alleged firmware along with its log information does not include the upgraded version of the QuickOffice, however, as far as I remember, this is something expected in the new firmware, right?

Do we know which product codes the NSU update will work for?

I could really use the A-GPS update.

I saw in Nokai Discussions that one or more people were able to upgrade to the new firmware thru NSU.

I had my E90 flashed yesterday at Nokia Service in Finland and it says 7.38.0.2 18.09.2007 and it has AGPS.

Pity they don't seem to have included a TIFF file viewer to view multipage faxes received via a fax2email service. Major omission in a business tool!!

Unregistered: no it's not. I have not used fax in years. So, if it is a major omission for you, it does not mean that it is for others, perhaps not even for most. Stop thinking devices are designed for you personally.. 😉

I am confused, we have about 100x E90 running mail for exchange. We got the devices in four batches through 3 suppliers. The level of complaints has been large enough that IT have suspended any further purchases. General complaints have been that the phone seems to get slower and buggier as it is used. We've done some testing and a full reset seems the only way of fixing this. Nokia said that there would be a firmware upgrade in the first week of October that would solve alot of these problems. IT are saying they want to scrap Nokia completely and move to BlackBerry as it is more stable. I'm not sure a partial delayed upgrade will placate them anymore. Anyone know when the full upgrade will realistically be released ?

@Unregistered

1. We should wait to make sure Nokia release a good quality FW update
2. Why did you company issue so many E90s without some pilots or testing. Seems like an expensive lesson

Just because you (or I) don't use faxes as much as we used to (if at all), doesn't mean that many people do not still use fax. And they send us faxes which we need to read -most conveniently off a fax2email service.
Therefore - a device such as the E90, which is aimed at a business/power user, should have the ability to read incoming faxes!

Agree 100%. The fax protocol is still very popular. Furthermore, in several legislations, also in Europe, fax is a valid document, whereas Email isn't. The fax protocol is secure. The fax protocol works on POT lines. Just because you see a reduced number of faxes around doesn't mean that the fax protocol is not used. It is, but via PCs.

Hi Steve,

Any idea when the famous firmware will be released? Need AGPS Urgently

The new firmware 7.40.12 has been released in Jakarta so it's not a rumor any more. 7.38 will never be released via the NSU.

Firmware 7.40.1.2 dt. 03-10-2007 released in India thro Nokia Care
