Newbie Question - How do I upgrade firmware?

11 replies · 3,349 views · Started 21 January 2003

I'm using 3.16 at the moment. How do I upgrade it? Also, does it matter who my cellphone company is?

If you have some equipment then its possible.
Like a flashbox (400$) or something similar.
Easier and cheaper going to NSC.
And that way you still have your warranty left 😃

How do you find your nearest Noka service centre.

I too have just brought a 7650 and have old firmware

gggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

How much does it cost (UK) ?

You can find the nearest service centre from Nokia's web site - you can search by postcode or town for your nearest.

In the UK it should be Free to upgrade, but it will depend on the centre, give then a call first and check which version they can supply you with and the cost, then go down.

By the way I am on v3.16 and have not bothered to upgrade as all is working fine and apparently (from other posts on this forum) some larger Java apps will not run on v4.x. So I'm sticking with 3.16.

😉

What you mean unlocked? Not tied up with a service provider???

Anyway, it would not matter. Go have your fw upgraded and may the force be with you. Don't forget to backup!

Why do you want to upgrade?

I have 3.16, & I've read about the new features some time back on this forum, there wasn't anything I really felt was earth-shattering

(If it works, don't fix it)

4.39 is so much faster that 3.16 😃
Its reason enough, + the new palettes you get 😃
