I've had my n95 for nearly a week, and I've lost count of the number of times I've closed the slider, but not hungup the call.
As this isn't a user option on the phone, if some one can write some software to achieve this, i will:
** love you longtime / have your babies / clean your shoes / buy you a drink / etc etc
** delete as appropriate.

Me too, I was hoping they would add the option to the v20 firmware.
I actually wouldnt want this. I talk with my slider closed. I appreciate the frustration tho so as an option would be good.

Well I'm with kontraband as i very rarely if ever open my slider now a days and is it really that time consuming or difficult to hit the red end call key?

No, it's not that time consuming, or difficult really.
Although after a few drinks in the pub, or if I've got other things on my mind, it's easy to forgot to press it.
i am just used to having older slide phones doing this. should at least be an option.
And when I'm so drunk I can barely see the phone, it would be even more helpfull.

Joking aren't you, after getting tanked up is normally the time my phone gets most use... Lightsabre, drunken photos and the 'great' idea of calling a number randomly without looking!
I really can't see why there isn't a setting somewhere to allow you end a call by closing the slider. I agree it isn't a big deal to press the button but I've had 4 slide-style nokias in the past and they've all ended the call that way, just seems weird not to have it.
Yeah id personally like this - i do talk with the slider closed when i answer calls but not when i make them so this would be perfect for me really if it worked when closed.
If id answered a call, then i could just either press red or quickly open and close the slider
